As I'm in the UK, I obviously have to work today, while Canadians back at home are enjoying the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Obvs I would love an extra bank holiday here, but I think the UK should move one of the ones in May to either October or February, when everyone would like a little break.

RIP to John Gurdon, Nobel Laureate and owner of the best hair in academia. We did this short film with him when he won the Nobel in 2012, where he talks about (among other things) an infamous school report he received, mocking his ambition to become a scientist.

1. "Boriswave" is an invention of the online extreme right.
2. Those people came here legally, paying huge fees to do so, to fill essential roles.
3. They won't get ILR unless they apply, jump through hoops, & pay more fees.
4. The Times is reporting on them as a criminal burden on society.

There is a more pressing issue. Ministers must ensure that the vast numbers of immigrants who arrived in the so-called Boriswave of 2020-21 are not automatically absorbed into the permanent population. They are about to cross the the five-year threshold into ILR, yet Labour continues to dither. Ms Mahmood must freeze the status of this huge cohort while a new residency regime is finalised. A million or more extra permanent residents in these islands, let in on the nod, is simply unacceptable. Finally, the home secretary must acquaint herself, and the public, with an accurate estimate of the actual number of foreign nationals living here, what taxes they pay and what services they consume. Without hard data, all the political parties are fumbling around in the dark.

genuinely insane we are at point "a person was afraid of someone who caused NO harm, so latter person needs to be segregated" rather than genuinely if YOU are so terrified of others on this level YOU are A PHOBE of some stripe and it is YOU who needs to leave. it IS bigots who need a third space imo
