GenX Hoo-mon that gives a 💩

☕️ 🧶 🏔️ 🛶 🍙 🌏📚🐈🖖🇺🇦🎮

Current dissociation: Pluribus

Playing: alt Cyberpunk endings, killing time for Metroid

Non-school reads: Witch King (reread)

Two assignments down, one to go. Almost there…
All I gotta say is that longtime residents of the DMV still just call it "National Airport."

Find me a GenX person that didn't, essentially, grow up with Rob Reiner. My dad even tried on the 70s mustache for a time.

When I see all those TV photos & the screen grabs from movies, I'm also flashing through a version of "This is Your Life" that is leaving me feeling like I lost my own dad.

I can't really process all the tragedies from the weekend. So focusing on things I have any control over... like the fact that my fav Star Wars shows are available as Blu Ray box sets. Fuck Disney+ and it's AI slop.

This is a batshit crazy take. I was fired from Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Store for, basically, not having enough flare. I was never ever rude. But in customer service, courtesy and vibes are everything.

Why in the world would any biz be ok with their staff telling paying customers to suck it?
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

Modern day Frankenstein. Oprah needs to reckon with her role in MAHA. Perhaps not on purpose, but I dunno what else you'd expect when mixing Dr. Phil kidnapping teenagers, Dr. Oz's snake oil, and Tolle's hyper-individualism.

First go at one of those cute knit frogs. And now I want to rage.

Curious how anyone managed to seam the green with the white parts bc it’s not mathing. Or maybe the expectation is the clothes will cover it?

When you put it that way, I find that I actually do want a 90210/Star Trek mashup.

Like why did't TNG do a bottle episode of Wesley Crusher going back in time to hang out in Beverly Hills? 🧐
If I didn't follow Star Trek, I'd swear this was some sort of parody. It's Beverly Hills 90210 in space??? Which one is Brenda & which one is Dylan? Will there be a Peach Pit in space?

Cancelling my Paramount+ seems more & more like a wise decision!

Fold over neck technique unlocked. I can only work on this project when recipient isn’t around so had to pause through Thanksgiving. But sleeves should go quickly. I know, #knitsky, sleeve island and all that. But this mesh pattern chews through inches and u only work 40sts per round. 💥

Oof and also srsly.

Everyone has a “substack” and I never remember the cute name for their newsletter they spent ages workshopping.

PS Substack platforms Nazis and will hold your subscribers hostage.
I actually think you *should* call it a Substack because you've chosen to build their brand instead of yours, why not just own that too?

We have thoughts about our backyard neighbors

Pedo - in the registry

Dickheads - clearcut 25 old growth trees & didn’t clean it up

The Cult - not the band. Weird stuff happening & the prop has at least 12 bedrooms via a rabbit warren of add-ons

The Cheese Ppl - takes a Porsche to Burning Man

OTOH, The Chair Company is tweaked.

OTOH, it also exquisitely and accurately portrays the rolling chaos of mid-life & all the little fires popping up all over the place that aggregate into your eroding sanity.

I've been trying - unsuccessfully - to get off Mark Kelly's fundraising list for months.

This is not a guy who's going to take anything lying down.

Am very grateful for my humanities degree, particularly all the Econ class I had to take. B/c I can read this for the (disingenuous) bullshit take it is.

Hint: AI only looks good against a backdrop of wider economic contraction. Makes you think they're tanking the economy precisely to set this up.
when its definitely not a hostage situation

This week’s #showmeyourknits is spotlighting indie dyers and designers. I frequently use indie yarns but honestly have no idea what a non-indie designer is.

Current WIP. Yarn is Hespa lopi purchased from the dyer in her shop in Iceland. The pattern is by Irish designer Ailbíona McLochlainn.

My teen got their wisdom teeth pulled yesterday. And just noticing how very childlike even older teens become when they’re in distress or suffering. It’s impossible to miss.

Just thought I’d share. For no particular reason.

I’m working on an ethics paper for psych school and doing some research on how values impact behavior. Kind of amazed at how predictable maga attitudes are. And also, researchers have known for over a decade that people of high socio-econ status tend to act unethically. 1/

Some of us also took Econ in undergrad… calling BS

Amidst all the chaos, this admin wants to strip nursing of its professional degree status, which would prevent people from taking out loans to go to nursing school. Obv this means fewer nurses.

It's like they're deliberately asking themselves: how can we make life even worse for people?

After many starts and stops, my sweater is finally done. The pattern is Sibeal by Isabell Kraemer. Salmon colored yarn is McMullin Fiber Co Posh Sock. Blue is Miss Babs Caroline. Both are merino/cashmere and are super soft.
