Come on now, you can't expect people to learn the full story before getting mad about it. This is the internet, they've got assumptions to make, priors to confirm, and virtue to display.
Maybe I lack empathy. Maybe I’m weird. But despite issues w/ depression & anxiety, I have absolutely zero concerns about masculinity. It wasn’t an issue growing up & never challenged as an adult. I really don’t get the crisis & feel like I should given its prominence. Suppose I could ask my sons…

I suggest the odds of MAGA trying to pull off an actual coup rises AS ITS CHANCES OF SUCCESS crater. i.e., the reality of impending electoral failure & its consequences both increases right wing panic & ensures it leads to MAGA’s immolation.

For anybody unfamiliar with the last 10+ years of housing politics in America, San Francisco legalizing 8-story apartments in most of the city including its wealthy neighborhoods (and up to 65 stories in some places!) is like PETA opening a steakhouse.
Holy shit San Francisco!

60% of the city rezoned, most places exceeding (!!) SB 79. The most restrictive of these allows attached 4–8 story apt buildings with no cap on the # of homes inside, no parking mandates, and by-right streamlined approval.

As part of my curse of remembering, we have to bear in mind that a lot of people have economic sentiment based on their "Airbnb empire", "rental empire", or "drop shipping company" folding.

It occurs to me that there are probably a LOT of multi-millionaires who are eager to see the billionaire class destroyed because they fully grasp that billionaires are bad for democracy AND SOCIETY AND markets AND capitalism.

I’m not sure why anyone would urge people to ‘leave alone’ an unrepentant, public figure who acted unethically to support a politician who is contributing to the deaths of thousands, conservatively.

Here is a policy platform of ideas that would all be fantastic for the country but piss off millions of really important voters:

1. Abolish SALT.
2. Repeal all trade import restrictions on cars.
3. Repeal the Jones Act.
4. Repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard.

I want the government to tell me what is or isn’t safe & in my foods.

I DO NOT WANT the government interfering with my educated, adult choice to eat goddamn Doritos.
San Francisco is suing ultraprocessed food companies.

The city attorney is filing the first government lawsuit in the US against manufacturers of ultraprocessed food.

He argues that cities are burdened with the cost of treating diseases that ultraprocessed food brings on.

I learned that some people are using AI to generate a summary of the book I'm offering free 😆

I therefore decided to compete with AI by writing my own summary, which I am calling Over the Cliff Notes.

When a senior writer of The New Republic (@alexshephard.bsky.social) posts extremely stupid shit on subjects they clearly have no expertise in, there immediate blocking of those who point that out is certainly a tactic. When he acknowledges his clear error, i don’t expect he’ll unblock.
You’re simply revealing, REPEATEDLY, that you have no idea what the term ‘war crime’ means and how & when the Geneva Conventions apply.

Stop. Talk to someone. Stop making up shit on which tomes exist.

Was ~1990 peak They Might Be Giants or did my tastes simply change?
This They Might Be Giants TONIGHT SHOW performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" from 1990 remains firmly lodged in my noggin thanks to the Tonight Show Band's full commitment and Doc Severinsen's incredible trumpeting... It took an already great song and made it transcendent.

A question for college professors… if my kid asks me for feedback on their essay, how much is ethically appropriate before it crosses the line into ‘cheating.’ I give suggestions which they sometimes accept, but often don’t. Any general guidelines?

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

i wouldn’t support a Corbyn led party even if i could, but ‘Your Party’ feels exceedingly dumb.

Perhaps ‘Our Party,’ but ‘Your Party’? No.

‘I belong to Your Party.’ No.
Well, that’s settled then… It’s just durational performance art.

"Western civilization," the font, the 11 stars - 11 states in the confederacy, for the record.

Why is this never news? Why are we letting our government agencies do this sort of thing while the news agencies report on hallucinated trade deals and act like everything is normal

Personally, I hold Trump's base in contempt and look down on them. That will not change. Indeed, I believe should be society’s default position.
So one of my political sins that I know I should get over is that I do have the problem of holding Trump's base in contempt and looking down on them, and part of it is that my image of who they are is heavily informed by the one MAGA guy who shows up regularly on my FB feed; I'll call him J.
