100 new followers, hello,,,
- i am a #chemsky #NMRchat staff scientist at Iowa State
- i have a herd of giant magnets
- i co-own a small retail plant store with my friend & neighbor
- the reason for this us “one wild and precious life”
- i do a lot of crafts
A large can that looks like r2d2 but it is a superconducting magnet A brick building that says back alley house plants and has two long pride flag banners on the facade A triangular knit garment with alternating stripes of blue, pink, purple, gray

This is the mushroom used by Erin Patterson, the Australian woman was convicted last month of murdering three people in 2023 by serving them a lethal lunch.

Deathcap (Amanita phalloides) at the foot of an oak in Engine Wood, Combe Hay on the outskirts of #Bath #Somerset #UK Probably the most poisonous #mushroom in the world - although slugs seem to like eating them!

Honestly I’m kind of upset the sentence wasn’t more substantial. Like, make him do the remediation every weekend for the rest of his life.

New reporting: many apparently fired at CDC in 'error'. This is a failure by design given that the admin does not care about fulfilling agency missions. This is the kind of error that should have political consequences.

Unserious people cause real-world harm.

This piece made possible by the detailed data and analysis in CDC's MMWR reports, the staff of which was reportedly laid off in last night's purge...

Last year's flu season was brutal-280 kids died. That came amid a drop in flu vax rates among vulnerable groups. Convincing people to get the flu shot has always been hard-under RFK, doctors' job got much tougher. Anyway: it's October, get your flu shot! My latest for @opinion.bloomberg.com (🎁):
This Flu Season Doesn’t Have to Be as Deadly as the Last
Last year’s flu season was long, brutal, and ultimately tragic. By the time infections had subsided in May, as many as 1.1 million Americans were estimated to have been hospitalized and as many as 100...

I’m interested in talking to a federal agency scientist who was fired, then rehired. I can keep you anonymous. I’m on Signal ginnyg.04

Ours have never won any medals, but they have worn party hats and been dressed up as Star Wars droids for Halloween.

It is superconducting (to get to the higher field) but no liquid cryogens, instead it uses recirculating pressurized helium gas (like a cryoprobe) to cool the superconducting wire. But that introduces a lot of vibrations, is my understanding

so they are basically running into the same issues
Cryogen-free magnet was used to measure high resolution solid-state and liquid-state 2D NMR spectra.
•
•It was shown that the magnet is good without limitations for solid-state MAS NMR.
•For liquid-state NMR the temporal field stability needs to be improved that can be done by hardware field correction.
•Magnet can be used at different field without compromising the data resolution.
•Some remaining spectra distortions can be corrected by post-acquisition software correction.

They are pretty common with DNP gyrotrons and higher field EPR magnets nowadays (where you have to sweep the field) but field homogeneity is not as critical. Have not seen it for solution NMR yet.
