the horror of what ICE is doing feels like it is really really really breaking through to people, and it's opening up big overdue conversations on other topics (that prisons have always been this inhumane, that Homeland Security has always been this racist) if we wanted to wedge those cracks open
It's nuts that Democrats are still acting so cowed about immigration when public opinion on it seems quite malleable and there's blowback now to right wing anti-immigrant politics in practice. You can win on this issue, you barely even have to try

Tarantino can have whatever opinions on actors he wants I guess but the collection of words "on an episode of the Bret Easton Ellis podcast, Tarantino said" is going to give me nightmares forever

This is so heartbreaking. Required viewing for anyone who has ever referred to service providers as part of the "homeless industrial complex." There *is* an exploitation engine, but it is, as usual, mostly about private equity.

You gotta really tap the character actors for this one. I'm torn between Keith David and Bud Cort.
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

Everyone is getting upset about the data centers. They pollute a lot and use a lot of energy and will eventually be very ugly/huge vacant buildings. And I understand being mad about that. Until you consider the state of the lazer tag industry at this moment, and how much help that sector needs.

This is so fucking goofy. The context of being used in an extremely pilloriable article about Louis C.K. makes it goofier, but I get the sense after poking around a bit that writers for the New Yorker deliberately avoid using words that could summon the umlaut.
