The slightly depressing thing is that even in like the 40s, 50s, 60s, when American society was objectively way more racist, all the themes that provoke grumbling about “wokeness” now were there; you just didn’t have many people willing to openly argue that basic decency is a bad, partisan message.

Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous.
I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them.

There’s a sort of Trump apologist, a relatively small but loud subset, who probably don’t realize or intend to be, but are so attached to a previous hyperbolic claim that they deny anything important changed.
-US was already an oligarchy

Note to editors and producers: If an executive order demands action that is illegal or outside of the president’s authority, then you should not describe it as ordering something. You should say it seeks to achieve some outcome and then note it is illegal or beyond the power of the president.

JD Vance materially damaged American security today, picking an unnecessary and public fight for the purpose of picking the fight and driving a wedge between us and our allies.

And what’s inevitably happened is that Dems just end up living in the right’s reality - a country where crime is out of control (it’s low), the economy is bad when Democrats are in charge (it’s very strong), and immigrants make the country unlivable (they aren’t).

Look, not to mince words, but Dems are COMPLETELY UNPREPARED for this style of politics. They’ve spent decades openly contemptuous of the idea that media matters, that propaganda matters, that the internet matters. In their head it’s still “Americans have concerns, we fix them, we get votes.”

In this new world it’s really critical to control or influence as many large platforms and informational sources as possible. If you don’t and the other side does, they’ll show millions of people things that convince them their own conception of reality is correct.

Dems are still operating in a political paradigm where the public has a set of concerns, roughly reflecting the reality of life in America, and elections are about who addresses them better.
But that is not the political paradigm we’ve lived in, for a long time, and we’re getting further from it.

If you're looking to raise alarm over Trump's promises to go after Liz Cheney, it might be more USEFUL to point out that he plans on attacking Speech and Debate protections than disseminating his posts designed to be maximally spectacular.
Bc that's what it would entail.

Interesting that Carlson asks "why am I required" to hate Assad. But nobody is "requiring" him. it's just that normal people, with what used to be normal American/Christian moral values, find torture and mass murder repugnant. He does not. And he also does not want to feel bad about that.
“I don’t have strong feelings about Assad one way or the other,” Tucker Carlson said. “Apparently he’s protected the Christians, so I’m grateful for that as a Christian. But, I don’t—why am I required to hate Assad?”

Reading the pardon coverage...I don't think the significance of the Gaetz/Patel/Bondi nominations has sunk in. People still aren't getting what a politicized DOJ and FBI, with the power to arrest/bug/harass anyone for any reason, would be able to do.

Also, if anyone mentions that mass deportations are popular, remind them that people think it means “kick out the bad people only.” When you tell voters what mass deportations entails — breaking up families, internment, rounding up people here for years — it suddenly becomes a very unpopular idea.

Prediction: As BlueSky grows, there will be a slew of pieces by Atlantic/Free Press type writers about how they tried to join, but were rejected from the echo chamber.
So, don't engage with them. Don't give them material. Mute/block and move on.
