Does bustin' still make me feel good in the year 2025? Mondo is counting on it with its very impressive, very expensive, set of figures based on The Real Ghostbusters: Peter Venkman and Samhain! Oh, and Slimer too!
Mondo The Real Ghostbusters Peter Venkman and Samhain
Does bustin' still make me feel good 40 years later? Let's find out! I didn't do a big 2024 wrap-up type of post like I sometimes do, but if I did I would have awarded toy producer Mondo with the biggest reveal of the year when they debuted their line of action figures based on The Real Ghostbusters. The Real Ghostbusters…

Not only is Super Mario Bros. 2 a "real" Mario game, but also there's some credible evidence that Doki Doki Panic began as a potential sequel to Super Mario Bros. 1.
There’s Super Mario DNA in Doki Doki Panic — Thrilling Tales of Old Video Games
And becoming Super Mario Bros. 2 was just a return to its roots.

The Nostalgia Spot's great Christmas special countdown gets off to an ass-kicking start today and will run through the Christmas holiday! And to start things off we have the worst of the worst - babies, penguins, and naked guys who swing from trees. These are the ones to avoid this holiday season.
Dec. 1 – The Nostalgia Spot Christmas Special Countdown – #209-200
Yes, it's that time of year again! It has been said before and so it shall be said again, but Christmas is the holiday that is the most commercialized of all. A massive component of that commercialization has been The Christmas Special, that one-off theatrical short, television event, or just a Christmas-themed episode of a popular (or not so popular) show.

The time traveler Cable made his presence felt in the original X-Men: The Animated Series and he's back again for X-Men '97. Longtime fans who never opened a comic finally get to find out the mystery behind the man while toy collectors get a pretty cool figure out of it.
Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 Cable
Say "Hello," to the Wild Man of Borneo. Today we finish our look at wave 3 of X-Men '97 Marvel Legends action figures and I think I saved the best for last. Cable was one of the non-members of the X-Men to play a pretty substantial role in the original animated series. He showed up in multiple episodes in both the first and second season and was a key player in what was to be the show's big finale, "Beyond Good and Evil." It wasn't a surprise to see him return in…

Last year I covered “Santa and the Three Bears,” a 1970 Christmas special with a crazy history involving, of all things, a marine park in Florida.

But it started as a passion project by former Hanna-Barbera animator Tony Benedict, who died this weekend.

Thanks for the memories, Tony. RIP.

Happy Black Friday, folks! Last year I decided to end my 25 specials in 25 days advent calendar style posts, but that doesn't mean I'm skipping Christmas entirely. So, yes, The Christmas Spot is back for 2025, but it's a little different and a little more focused.
The Christmas Spot Returns with The Nostalgia Spot Christmas Special Countdown!
Last year concluded ten years of advent calendar style countdowns of classic and not-so-classic holiday specials. Twenty five posts on consecutive days for one person with a family and a full-time job is a pretty big time sink each year. It's a year-round endeavor of hunting for specials never before seen or covered, viewing them, viewing them again, viewing them often a third or fourth time, then writing and capturing images for a blog post that routinely runs for thousands of words.

The White Queen Emma Frost made an appearance in the first season of X-Men '97 that was apparently so memorable a new action figure was warranted. Or she's to be a bigger player in the forthcoming second season. Either way, it's another chance at a classic X-villain in plastic.
Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 Emma Frost
Enter the White Queen. If you have seen the first season of X-Men '97 then you may be wondering why Emma Frost, aka the White Queen, is receiving an action figure in the show's companion toy line. She didn't play a big role in the show having a speaking role in just one episode and then what amounted to a cameo in a later one.

When Morph bit the dust in the old X-Men cartoon, it made me sad, but since Morph is a comic book character it meant they could come back to life! Now we're onto X-Men '97 and Morph is back as a full-fledged member of the team and with an all new look which means an all new sculpt from Hasbro.
Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 Morph
At long last, the era of Morph is here! I'm always going to have a soft spot for Morph. It was rare to see a character killed off in a children's show, but that was the fate of old Morph who didn't make it out of the show's second episode. I wouldn't call it traumatizing, but there was definitely a haunted quality to that scene, "Wolverine!

Let's make this Wednesday a #WolverineWednesday This Wolverine figure is the latest in Mondo's line of figures based on the X-Men animated shows - both of them, with this one leaning heavily into X-Men '97. Is it a worthy, expensive, upgrade over their original figure from 4 years ago?
Mondo 1/6 X-Men ’97 Wolverine – Limited Edition
The best there is at what he does. Back in 2021, Mondo unveiled for San Diego Comic Con a sixth scale Wolverine action figure based on the X-Men animated series from the 90s. It was a presale to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the show's premiere and product went out in 2022 closer to that actual anniversary. At the time, Mondo wasn't planning on doing more, but the response was so enthusiastic that their one-off turned into a whole line.

Our #TurtleTuesday look at NECA's line of 2012 figures continues today with Donatello! He's the more uniquely proportioned of his brothers from the show and a real fan favorite so here's hoping NECA did him justice.
NECA TMNT 2012 Donatello
He has a way with machines. We were able to get through some of the logistics of this line with Leonardo, so for this second review we can just get right to it. One of the best decisions the 2012 iteration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made was bringing back veteran voice actor Rob Paulsen. He's voiced countless characters over the years, but many know him as Raphael from the original TMNT cartoon.

One of those shows I only have faint memories of, but it was fun to see most of those memories are actually pretty accurate. I too had no idea there was a toy line, but I was probably watching in ‘88 or ‘89 and it may have been long gone, or I was just too invested in Real Ghostbusters.
