Some of my favourite Tolkien artwork, illustrating one of my favourite Lord of the Rings passages.
“In western lands beneath the Sun…” Sam’s song carries hope through shadow. My illustration captures that moment — light remembered in dark places.

It's almost streamtime! We'll be going live in less time than it takes a zombie to run the 100m! Unless it's one of those running zombies in which case make it a few of those! See you there...

A thumbnail image for the upcoming TLJ livestream, titled 28 Streams Later. It is extremely red, with a pair of spooky eyes in the background (but bespectacled, like JD's). Andy, JD, and Robbie are shown smaller and below, in silhouette, holding a banjo, a guitar, and a mandolin respectively, as if ready to use them as weapons to fend off the zombie horde.
Octenth again - and I'm seeing them live this evening. 😃
Several years ago on a livestream someone told @thelongestjohns that their music was 10/10 or as their text to speech put it - October 10th. So fans decided to celebrate Octenth and I wanted to share 10 of my favourite Johns videos, starting with yesterday's collab...

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who came Into the Deep with us. You have been a wonderful audience, and it's been a tremendous pleasure to join voices with yourselves, @homefreeguys.bsky.social, and Sean Dagher! ❤️

A picture from the Home Free and Longest Johns show in Ohio, where both bands PLUS the majestic Sean Dagher are on stage in the middle of performing the song Santiana. The lighting for this particular song is a warm orange. Everyone is sort of haphazardly arranged around the stage because it's a very mobile performance, and but a single image doesn't really convey the mobility. A thoroughly purple shot from the closing performance of Northwest Passage, where the full ensemble (again including Sean Dagher, still majestic) is arranged across the front of the stage in a line. Lots of hands clasped in front or behind, and a sombre reverence for the song. And then there's iRobbie (an iPad on top of a mannequin in t-shirt and board shorts), with his arms up as if announcing a touchdown, but also with his eyes shut in respect. A closing shot from the show, where all members are lined up with arms round each other having just taken a synchronised bow to close out the show.
Apart from iRobbie who is still in the 'touchdown' pose.
Had the most incredible evening yesterday watching the livestream of the last show in this joint @homefreeguys.bsky.social and @thelongestjohns.bsky.social tour. I believe you can still buy tickets if you can watch in the next 24 hours or so.

Happy Hobbit Day everyone! On this day in 1937, J.R.R. Tolkien gave us The Hobbit, our doorway into Middle-earth. Inside he hid a gift to his favourite aunt. My latest blog post will put you in the picture! tinyurl.com/hobbitongrange

Absolutely gorgeous new song from @homefreeguys.bsky.social from their Challenge the Sea album that just dropped the day. The video is a continuation of their Skull and Bones one, and the song features Seán Dagher.

On the slopes of Mount Doom, the Ring destroyed, the quest has been achieved, but it seems that all is over for Frodo and Sam. Frodo, who has long held on with endurance beyond hope, is resigned that this is "the end of all things", whereas Sam, with unquenchable hope, doesn't want to give up yet.

All the best to you and your family. 🫂
I'm glad you liked it - I'm a fangirl, but they do make some wonderful music.
This is incredible - one of their best arrangements, up there with Brothers in Arms, and Jimmy Bates's video takes it to another level.
The newest video from @homefreeguys.bsky.social is a dramatic portrayal of the 1976 Gordon Lightfoot original folk rock ballad “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”.

Christopher H Bidmead : a warm, engaging and hugely intelligent man who enjoyed putting the cat among the pigeons on interviews. In real life though, he was approachable and kind: and made the nicest coffee I’ve ever had. Here is is at home in Dec 2013 when he kindly asked me round.
RIP Chris x

I just kinda forgot to post more photos of my recent LEGO animals. This month has been a lot..
But here's a very Moo Deng inspired hippo I made to brighten your day!

A cute hippo made of LEGO. A cute hippo made of LEGO.
Wrong side of the Atlantic for me, but I want to hear all about it from everyone who gets to see my two favourite bands performing together.
It's not long until we head off to join HOME FREE on a journey INTO THE DEEP, and we'd love to see you there for the VERY SPECIAL collaborrative show we've got planned!

An image of three(?)-headed The Longest Johns wearing their single, large dungarees, saying "Ahoy American shipfriends, The Longest Johns here! Into the Deep begins in a month and we're as thrilled as this guy to show you this incredible show! Isn't that right?" To the right of them, just poking in to the edge of the frame, is a hard-to-notice splash of rich sea blue. A now complete image showing a fourth head on their shoulders. It is the wide-eyed, thousand-yard stare of the Into the Deep poster face, cheeks bedecked with tour date tattoos and orange Into the Deep hat, along with ships entangled in the stormy seas of his beard, a tentacle and harpoon jutting forth, and a ship's wheel in his mouth. He has seen things. A striking tour poster for Into The Deep, a tour from The Longest Johns and Home Free.
It shows a stylised drawing of a distraught sailor's face, wearing an orange cap. His face is a cold blue hue, with hair and beard in darker blue, turning into waves and water as they progress down his face. Jutting out from the lower jaw in his open grimace of a mouth is a wooden ship's wheel. His face is scrawled with nautical tattoos (a compass, mountains, skull and crossbones, anchor, etc.) and across both his cheeks are the tour dates and venues.
Please excuse a complete stranger butting in, but have you heard the Dreadnoughts and Skinny Lister? More punk shanties. 😃
You did Fiddlers Green on a stream earlier in the year, and I'd love to have a streamable version.

I was so happy when I got my Oxonmoot shirt with this beautiful design.
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! I had the honour of designing the official t-shirt for Oxonmoot 2025 – the annual gathering of #Tolkien fans hosted by @tolkiensociety.org in Oxford.
