Slides from a Home Office presentation for employers on “earned settlement” — note the case studies: they explicitly play the “good migrant” versus “bad migrant” narrative. Guess which category Sarah, the American, is placed in?

Innocent people end up in our criminal courts.

Completely, terrifyingly innocent.

And all that stands between them and losing everything is a fair trial.

Politicians would do well to remember this when they tell us that justice is all about processing “criminals” swiftly.

Similarly if the UK 'curtails' human rights for immigrants, who else do you think it impacts?
just going to reiterate this.

if immigrants don't have due process, no one does. you can't tell citizens from immigrants without due process. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/if-immigra...

As a high-skilled immigrant to the UK, I know a lot of people in my boat and I cannot stress enough that we are ALL talking about leaving because of these policies

So what if they weaken ECHR human rights protections? So what if they interpret protection from torture differently? Will that improve services? Help the NHS? Bring better food, air & education? Eradicate poverty?
Crushing rights is the most destructive distraction from the wrongs that need fixing.

it's outrageous that visa routes with no work requirement, and already tied to the british sponsor's earnings, now have an additional, out-of-the-blue earning requirement added on top. also the home office are raising language requirements, but "bradley may not eligible"

the reason they want kids banned from social media is bcos:

white kids meet Black kids
straight kids meet gay kids
cis kids meet trans kids
abled kids meet disabled kids

it's much harder to create a society of angry and bitterly divided adults if the kids they used to be are immune to the bigotry.

To steal a line, that was written in 1994 (thanks Clint!)

And when they come to ethnically cleanse me
Will you speak out? Will you defend me?
Or laugh through a glass eye as they rape our lives?
Labour’s stance is basically that you people - the British public - are all fucking racists and bigots who hate immigrants.

Do you agree with that assumption? Are you just going to let them continue to say that about you?

Added alt-text to the image below.

Important to emphasise that Labour has committed itself to racist and xenophobic anti-immigrant action. Do not let that go unnoticed - or unpunished, when elections come back around.

if people take the time to speak to actual migrants in the UK they will find that our communal mythologies actually sort of accord with what Polanski said. "we wipe their bums, they try to deport us, the ungrateful shits" is something i could have feasibly said at any point between 2016 and now

If Labour get gutted by the Greens in the local elections do you think they will go
"Hmm current trajectory bad"
or
"we have to double down"

I bet B
Someone I know received this response from their Labour MP regarding his concern about the “earned settlement” proposals. While I absolutely hate it, there’s no BS in it, a break from the usual copy-and-paste nonsense about this issue Labour sends to constituents.

re: Polanski's "wiping bums" comment all i can say is that i, a migrant, would sympathise a lot more with the argument that it is "snobbery" if the people making that argument weren't essentially saying "therefore we can freely deport the workers he was speaking of"
I'm sorry, but these attacks are just not going to convince Green-curious voters, because Labour is so visibly out of step with those voters' core values
This by @umakumaran.bsky.social is good - and a example of exactly how Labour should be taking on the Greens; on values, direct and on Labour territory. Taking them seriously.

It makes clear that this isn’t about what’s good for the country, but about winning the next election with a little dash of blackmail, of course: “but Reform will be worse.”

Also Starmer: we’re happy to hit the economy by up to £10 billion to appease racists.

Labour as a government is fundamentally racist and xenophobic. Yes, you absolutely can say that a Reform or Conservative government would be worse for people, but you're still arguing over which flavour of racism you are prepared to swallow for a quiet life. 1/7

When they want to increase public spending, every politician is asked how they will pay for it, but the same is not true (yet) for cutting immigration (because it is incorrectly understood as not having a cost.) I wonder if that will change as the impact on the economy becomes more visible.

Framing public cruelty towards migrants/refugees as a “visceral need” or “human desire” doesn’t explain anything, it simply absolves those who inflame it.
