I think this is right, but I’d also add that media elites can’t comprehend that people care about real stuff happening, rather than just red team vs. blue team.

These protests aren’t related to a campaign, so the media’s entire (hollowed out) set of tools for understanding politics are useless.

For sure some of the legacy media outlets are downplaying the protests because they’re aligned with Trump, but I think an even bigger factor is how many elite journalists have a patrician disdain for the idea that politics can happen in the streets and not just the CNN green room.
