At this rate Duffy is going to bring back leaded gasoline.
Sean Duffy: "We are gonna save billions of dollars by getting rid of the fuel economy standards that are set way too high, that no combustion engine can meet, costing each car to the tune of thousands of dollars for the end consumer. We're in the process of getting rid of those rules."
Pro tip: if you’re completely full of shit, maybe don’t include details that can be easily fact-checked.
Receiving campaign donations from people who have also donated to the UCP isn’t inherently a bad thing. But issuing a statement about transparency while sharing misleading information absolutely is.

"Transparency matters to us — and the facts are simple.

“Out of 315 donors who have supported the Tim Cartmell and Better Edmonton campaign, only 20 appeared on the United Conservative Party’s 2023 donor disclosure list and five appeared on the NDP’s.”

That’s a very specific defence, as it only applies to donors in 2023.

So, without limiting the search to 2023, how many of Tim Cartmell’s supporters have also donated to the United Conservative Party?

The answer is a little more than $400,000 worth. Postmedia went through Cartmell’s recent donor disclosure lists, as well as the one provided for 2024, and double-checked the names against what appears on Elections Alberta’s search database for UCP funders. In the case of corporate donors, we found directors and or company CEOs, and then input their names into the Elections Alberta database.
That was a pretty good one to have gone to though.
Might have said that when I clicked the button to purchase.
This will be Grey Cup number eleven for me. Nine for Em. Lots of good times in those trips.
I guess we’re going to Winnipeg this November. I’m sure this is a decision I won’t be questioning later on.
Confirmation that I’ve purchased tickets to Grey Cup.
Bingo. The province hasn’t shown any willingness to work with the City, so what exactly is the next Council supposed to do? It sure seems like Edmonton could take steps to address their concerns and they would just ask for more.
An improved relationship with the province would be great. However, it’s the province, not the City of Edmonton, that has strained the relationship. Unless the province has a change of heart, things aren’t likely to improve anytime soon.

very funny that JD Vance has so little to do with his time that he goes on podcasts to defend 30-year-old men for saying how much they love Hitler
JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."

New, from me: I break down all that is happening with the shutdown.
Shutdowns are bad. But only Trump and Russ Vought are brave enough to ask: what if shutdowns aren’t painful enough? How can we use this as an opportunity to target our political enemies? 🧵

"We keep offering the same thing and they keep saying no. Our offer is awesome and they're idiots for not accepting it. We do want to continue with negotiations though."

That's basically a summary of the finance minister's comments.
The finance minister's quotes in the story leave me with the impression that he has a different definition of negotiation than the average person. It comes across as "we're happy to negotiate as long as they accept our offer" which, you know, isn't a negotiation.

Smith in 2014: The plan to change the motto on Alberta's licence plate is a politically motivated distraction.

Smith in 2025: Here's a plan to change the motto on Alberta's licence plate.
Smith Not Impressed With New Plates "Political Agenda"

Written by Brent Manke Monday, Jul 14 2014, 12:00 AM

The three choices for Alberta's new license plate, plus what we have now. The Opposition Wildrose party is up in arms over the removal of the "Wild Rose Country" slogan from the bottom of the plates, calling it politically motivated.

Highwood MLA Danielle Smith is no fan of Alberta's proposed new license plates.

She supports the new reflective paint job, but not changing the slogan at the bottom from "Wild Rose Country."

She says it's more PC political nonsense.

"All of a sudden this comes out in the middle of the summer, in the middle of a leadership race, taking off the Wild Rose slogan. It's clearly political. People have seen through it. They are outraged and responding in massive numbers. We have a poll going with six thousand respondents so far, most of which, about 70-percent who say keep the Wild Rose slogan."

She says the province would have been better off asking us if we wanted to change the plates in the first place, as well as if we wanted to change the slogan, before moving ahead on their own.

It is a licence plate with attitude. It is long overdue. Psst … the current licence plate was designed more than 40 years ago.

Strong and Free. It is the motto of Alberta. They are words found in the national anthem.

I’ll take the two points. Deserved or not.

So far this Oilers game has been a total snooze fest, and the UCP’s education funding propaganda (sorry, “commercials”) during every break aren’t helping with the entertainment value.

Perfect description of that goal.
I missed the first period but just got this from my brother. Might have been a good period to miss.
Text message about the amount of Rush being played during the Oilers game. For the record, any Rush is too much Rush.
Had to pull out some cold weather gear for the Elks game today.

In my younger/pre-kids days, this is the type of game I’d have shown up to with just a hoodie. Then I’d have put back a half dozen beers in the first quarter to get a good “beer jacket” going so I could stay warm.
I think I’m going to watch Bull Durham now because I really think I need to more baseball.
Just an incredible ball game. Sports are so much more enjoyable when you don’t care who wins.
