Build more housing and make streets safe. That’s it.
I think we’re seeing similar shortfall in mission from a down payment assistance program in Athens. Helping people buy only goes so far with scant supply.
I like that the proposed demand subsidies in these program would be reserved for purchases of *new* homes. Just juicing demand without stimulating new supply doesn't help with housing affordability.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

With the average new car at $50,000, let's look at the real costs of "freedom":

✅ Decades of debt
✅ Social isolation for every trip
✅ A leading cause of death & injury

Car dependency is a financially and socially crippling system, not a choice.

Much recommended ‘lecture’ on urban mobility and its companion, land use planning.

Love how Brent several times stress the need to call out status quo bias, eg by highlighting that people calling for ‘balance’ in really just want status quo. Which is not fair, but just what we have gotten used to.
WATCH THIS: This is quite possibly still the most comprehensive interview I’ve ever done on smart urban transportation for better cities. Filmed in Vienna for a planned Paris-based documentary. Watch it, quote it, and please help spread it around. Thanks!

Good news for Boston. It really REALLY matters who a city lets be mayor. Frankly a lot of cities out there need to pick better ones. #BetterMayors
JUST IN: Josh Kraft is dropping out of the mayoral election in Boston.

This means that Mayor Michelle Wu, the progressive incumbent, is certain to win a second term.

Definitely see this attack in Athens GA too.
This “real NYer vs gentrifier” shit is ALL OVER Threads too - like 80% of the posts on my feed there
given the stuff that's coming out from right wing media and cuomo and adams, the anti-Zohran bloc has landed on "gentrifiers vs REAL new yorkers" as the wedge they need to crack the Zohran coalition. It's interesting ot see Jeffries' team explicitly adopting it too!

That was 30 years ago as I'm reminded seeing my own kids talk about getting the Zell grant. Government used to go out of its way to help citizens but since that time - the ethos has just been cut cut cut.
So you wonder why people are skeptical govt can do good things? They've never seen it.
