Got MJ Lenderman writing Jackson Browne songs. Could be big for the culture.

Cool writeup by @missmollymary.bsky.social about a collection of songs I batched together onto a CD earlier this year. And a bit about CDs generally.

good disc, man: Routine Layup
I began life as a CD Girl. I got my first Discman when I was 10 or so. My booklet of discs to bring on family road trips was modest but comforting. In high school, burned CDs spilled from every orific...

My biography of Justin Townes Earle will be released on January 13th, 2026, the week after what would’ve been his 44th birthday.

It’s called ‘What Do You Do When You’re Lonesome’

Chris’s book is excellent! Some scenes I knew intimately and others I missed entirely in the moment. Made for a beautiful mix of nostalgia and education spanning my entire adult life, and a pretty definitive document on the commodification of coolness in indie music. Read it!
My debut book is OUT TODAY!

'Such Great Heights: The Complete Cultural History of the Indie Rock Explosion' is about how indie rock changed the mainstream and the mainstream changed indie rock in the 21st century.

Buy it and let me know what you think:

Friendship have been important fixtures of the indie world for years, but with CAVEMAN WAKES UP, they've really and truly Arrived. I wrote about one of my favorite albums of the year:
Album Of The Week: Friendship 'Caveman Wakes Up'
“He sounds like he’s dying.” When my wife — by no means an aficionado of diaristic indie country-rock steeped in melancholia — happened upon me listening to Friendship’s new album Caveman Wakes Up whi...

Spent an hour with Jim-E Stack who produced the new Bon Iver record. Talked drums, remixes, track listings, Lorde's new record (which he also produced), LEGOS, and the King of the Hill reboot. Had a great time.

I spoke with the excellent @alexrobertross.bsky.social about the newest Bon Iver record, SABLE, fABLE, which he reviewed for Pitchfork. He spoke from a cabin in the Canadian wilderness, so you know this was inspired.

It's After the Deluge on the main podcast apps! 👏

I popped into the 10/10 You’re Great podcasting nook on a recent trip to Seattle and yapped about Pup and The Dream is Over… and digestifs, and Coldplay and Cars (Part 1) and lots more.

These guys allowed all of the Covid podcasts to come and go before offering up their own and it’s good and fun.
We had @routinelayup.bsky.social in the studio this week to show us what a real podcast voice sounds like. Also we talked The Dream Is Over by Pup. And shout out to my Grandpa for his principles and loving the movie Cars.

Snuck into the Pebble Beach Pro Am and as I walked through some trees a ball came bouncing up to my feet. I waited there and up strolled Bill Murray and Ray Romano who chatted and made space for Kenny G chip out.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

I’m making Vol. 4 of this zine. The main feature is on Bon Iver, but pitches can/should stray far from that… just need to live in the greater 2007-25 indie world. Short articles and/or art... paid.
