HOLY COW is refreshing for refusing to "psychologise" its characters. They're not overdetermined, they feel human. A generous approach that also comes through in the way Louise Courvoisier talks here about power dynamics on set & her responsibility in representing sex. She's wise because she cares!
An unexpected box office success in France, Louise Courvoisier's HOLY COW challenges strict divisions between popular comedy and arthouse fare. She talks to Animus about her unusual journey, the risks and comforts of working with family, sex scenes, and more. animus-magazine.ghost.io/louise-courv...

CA4 embargo is up so I can say it's quietly one of the most conservative marvel films with an overarching plot about forgiving hardball, right wing politicians because they're having their strings pulled by scientists - weird!

Caring about the Oscars is a fundamentally silly thing to do. Everybody who enjoys them KNOWS they almost never pick the actual best picture of the year, nor a movie that will last for all time. But sometimes they DO pick a Godfather or a Casablanca or a Parasite. It's part of the fun.

IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU: Rose Byrne gives an astounding performance in Mary Bronstein’s nightmarish, funny, and devastating drama (which already has distribution through A24). It's the best thing I've seen at the fest thus far 📽️

Given that the same tactic was deployed against LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL less than a year ago, I would simply question who benefitted in both instances
Did The Brutalist use AI? Everyone agrees this Oscar-nominated movie is particularly vulnerable to associations with artificial intelligence. The accusation is so pointed some awards-season watchers wonder if there’s skullduggery at play.
