For whoever needs to hear this, people have listened to music before there was streaming. Before there were digital files. Before there was compact discs. Before there were cassettes. Before there were records. Before homes had electricity. Before any technology even.

OK but would they have made any money?

I genuinely don't understand the value proposition of "Instead of making hundreds of millions of dollars, we just put this thing on our platform and don't charge extra for it."

Amazing that SEPTA has posted this kind of growth this year, despite all its tribulations. (This time period includes the funding crisis and the Silverliner IV grounding but not the Trolley Tunnel outage.)

The people of Philadelphia demand transit!
Another month of US transit data is just in, & DC's WMATA remains the fastest-growing major US transit agency, with ridership up 10% compared to last year!

King County Metro (Seattle, +7%) & SEPTA (Philly, +5.3%) have performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit have lost riders🧵

Philadelphians! I want to interview Center City residents who live in the newer apartments that have been built over the last six years.

If you fit that description, or know someone who does, lets talk. I essentially want to hear about what kind of work you do, your commute and if you own a car.

A byproduct of the streaming only / shift away from physical is the launch of something is the worst it will be with the implicit promise or incremental improvements and corrections rolled out over time as opposed to having to get it right for a cutoff print and ship date.

There is also just a huge amount of music available! It's not like there's such a shortage of Good music that you need to generate your own. People are constantly making it and have for centuries!
My stance on AI-generated music is that if other humans couldn’t be bothered to write, play*, and mix it, I am not wasting my limited human time listening to it.

*I’ve seen how much creative work goes into good electronic music. It counts; I am just very tired and couldn’t find a better verb.

Maybe these people don't need to create bespoke AI-generated songs, but instead just need radio stations with good DJs.

There's a great overlap between the "stealing indie books is leftism" discourse and the "the poverty line is $135k" discourse.
I imagine most of the people trying to claim that stealing indie ebooks is leftism simply have never had to worry about paying rent or for groceries but sorry, your desire for free luxury goods is outweighed by the material needs of their creators

Amazing how much this project had to compromise just to get to this stage. A giant parking lot put in, a huge reduction in the number of units, and pushing the buildings away from the street.
“It’s a travesty that one deep-pocketed opponent has been able to block access to housing for over 100 families in my neighborhood for years.

It’s more expensive than ever to rent or buy here, and this project would be a welcome change to its current use as a derelict warehouse.”
West Philly affordable housing project could finally advance, almost 6 years after it was proposed
A Cedar Park neighbor of a planned 104-unit affordable housing development lost a lawsuit that challenged the city's zoning change to facilitate the project.

Cool how the modal source of news in the US today is of slightly lower quality and veracity than the Weekly World News.
A scroll of your Facebook timeline will tell there's been a nuclear attack, Peyton Manning has come out of retirement and signed with the Packers, Epstein was found alive in Florida, an NFL player was suspended for supporting Trump, a whistleblower said the moon landing was fake. Nonstop unreality.
Tech giants keep touting a system they built to label AI-generated content. But it only works if everyone uses it.

So I checked. They're not using it.
