Writer @ Epic Games. Screenwriter. Tabletop RPG design neophyte. Gay as hell, broken in a fundamental but amusing way, and trying his best to make you laugh and/or cry. He/him.

Heyo! I’m RJ, a game writer, screenwriter and burgeoning self-taught TTRPG designer who’s three years into a grand adventure at Epic Games. I’m gay as fuck, very friendly, and a barely-functioning human being with a general addiction to yearning.

You can find my TTRPG ramblings at Into the Portal.

Doing a little working vacation away from home, and the last few days in the city have been… fucking transcendent. I know why I don’t live here, but I needed this visit; the joy-per-hour ratio has been very high, in a very heart-refilling sort of way.
I was a faithful Critical Role watcher during the pandemic, and their Monsterhearts oneshot blew my mind. A TTRPG could be *this*??
For tons of folks, there was that -one- game that blew the doors open and showed what #TTRPGs could be. The one that started the #IndieGame rabbit hole.

What was YOUR "gateway" indie #TTRPG? The first one that made you realize a whole other world was out there?

Putting out a call: if you were part of WOTC’s late-2010s live events (Stream of Many Eyes, D&D Live, The Descent), I would love to talk to you as part of the Actual Play book.

[email protected] will reach me, either to schedule a chat or to share your memories.

Please feel free to share.
I am so excited for this fucking bookkkkkk
We don’t know each other beyond a couple Bluesky interactions, but I adore your art and am rooting for you in this bleak time 💙 I hope things get better.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else published something through DriveThruRPG?

I'm wondering what the general experience is like regarding approval times.

They are called writers
we need a word for a type of person who spends all their time working to live in a city so they can be near cool things, but they don't actually like going out
If I've seen Jurassic Park, it was too young to remember anything from it; all of my memories of it are from the SNES tie-in game.
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.
Epic D&D session coming up today, as my players -- simultaneously existing on two planes, due to strange magic -- face off with a dangerous warlock attempting to corrupt a dragon, and witness (and possibly intervene in) a fight between two gods.

It's October 1st, and the Hundred One Page Game Jam has opened!

I knew I wasn't supposed to start til today, and that once I read the games, I'd be itching to dive in. So, while I rolled the games I'm planning to use *days* ago, I have banned myself from opening any of them til this morning.

Having to choose between ‘have a free blog/newsletter w privacy options but pay through the nose’ vs ‘have a semiprivate blog but have to charge every subscriber’… jeez, this system seems kinda broken.
Oof! Extremely fair. I’m privileged by my own obscurity here; I imagine in your position I’d make the same call.
