we had our resident former financial analyst @robmains.bsky.social look into Hal Steinbrenner's recent comments. Turns out he might not be lying...but that doesn't mean he's telling the truth either:

Did the Yankees lose money this year?

Hal sucks, always and forever, but this is what he says anytime someone puts a mic in front of him. Also, the $100M thing conveniently ignores that stadium debt service gets subtracted from local revenue in the revenue sharing plan. The stadium pays for itself.

Hal did talk today after all. He complained about payroll like he always does. Business as usual.
All the reporters at the other place deleted their posts about this, so I guess Hal isn't talking? Not missing much either way.
Hal Steinbrenner will hold a Zoom call with reporters Monday. He's going to say he'll consider everything the front office recommends this offseason and that he doesn't think you need a [insert NYY's payroll] payroll to win the World Series. If you've heard one Hal presser, you've heard them all.

The Yankees non-tendered Mark Leiter Jr., Scott Effross, Ian Hamilton, Jake Cousins, and Michael Arias. Arias is a Double-A reliever they could re-sign to a minor league deal. Cousins had Tommy John surgery in June and will most/all of 2026. Tough to carry him on the 40-man roster all offseason.

Grisham's back for 2026, so the Yankees have their CF. Brian Cashman said they would still pursue Cody Bellinger even if Grisham took the QO, though I'd rather they not just run back the exact same offense next year. We'll see.

Yarbs returns. The Yankees tweaked his changeup this past season and he had his highest strikeout rate in years, and he didn't sacrifice any of the ability to limit hard contact he's survived on throughout his career. Perfectly cromulent swingman/sixth starter.

If Aaron Judge needs interior decorating inspiration, look no further than Yogi.

Judge is the fourth Yankees player to win three AL MVP Awards, joining Berra, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.

If you turned 50 Raleigh outs into hits, he'd still have a lower AVG than Judge's .331

Flip 68 Raleigh outs into times on base and his OBP would still be lower than Judge's .457

Josh Naylor was great (.490 SLG), Raleigh outslugged him by 99 points (.589), Judge outslugged Raleigh by 99 (.688)
Cal Raleigh had an exceptional year. Good for MVP in a great many seasons. In my view, this wasn't particularly close though. Judge is doing absolute freak shit at the plate, but he's been doing it so consistently that it doesn't feel that crazy anymore. Which is nuts!

Aaron Judge won his third MVP. It was really close. He's the 13th player in history with three MVPs. Cody Bellinger got a few down ballot votes.
