their plainly stated goal is to starve forty million people until they get what they want, which is to rip health care away from millions more

that this is too monstrous for most news organizations to tell the truth about does not change the facts
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

I talked about the Clipse song "Birds Don't Sing" during our Remembrance Day platform today. I needed to introduce the Clipse to an audience that wouldn't know them otherwise. I said "they're brothers from Virginia Beach, and they usually rap about cocaine" which feels like a very me moment to have

hey Chicago if you are (understandably) nervous about confrontations with ICE

find a street vendor and give what can

they’re charging $5 for a tamale? Not for you, it’s $20 now
if you want to defend the working class? buy out a street vendor’s cart so they don’t have to choose between their income or kidnapping by ICE

I don't much believe in God (with or without the capitalization) myself, but when people who profess belief insist that "you're good just how God made you" is a counter argument to people being trans I simply cannot get over the hubris.

I'd like to read something pop-sciencey, but good and grounded in actual science. Anyone got good suggestions?

And there it is: Russell Vought is confirmed.

I wrote a long profile of him, his worldview, his political project: He’s one of the architects of Project 2025, an avowed Christian nationalist, and a radical ideologue of the “post-constitutional” Right.

He is at war with pluralistic democracy.

I'm getting a lot of freaked out late-night texts from my friends who are not experienced organizers, looking for advice on how to deal with the constant onslaught of bad news and how to make themselves useful. This is the advice I give.
Y'all pick a lane. Then make a little progress in your lane each day.

Every serious, experienced organizer I know is Doing Their Thing. Instead of freaking out about each bit of bad news, we're in our lanes rapidly building dual power infrastructure and networks that don't rely on the goverment.

The FDA might not take H5N1 seriously but every Mask Bloc is stocking up on N95s.

SNAP might get cut off but Food Not Bombs will still be handing out food each week.

FEMA might get gutted but Mutual Aid Disaster Relief will still be mucking & gutting houses.

Some have been so numbed to the creep of power that they keep asking what if this turns violent. Friends, it is violent.
ICE went to the home of a 61-year-old man with poor health and after his family informed ICE agents that they needed a warrant signed by a judge, dozens of ICE agents instead showed up in an armored vehicle with a battering ram and flash grenades and took him by force.
A family member is speaking out against an ICE operation in northwest Phoenix on Sunday, calling it an unnecessary use of force www.azcentral.com/story/news/p...

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

There's one form of abundance in this disaster: experts who're taking the time to explain things. Here's one whose work I admire.
Here's the reality about the #LAFires this week: this isn't the first time ANY of these places have burned. Not even close. In 2018, we mapped CA fire history to look at fire frequency across SoCal. Santa Monica Mtns area burns more than anywhere else -- up to once per decade in a given spot. 🧵
