Wildlife tracking! I'm reposting things I made this past year. If you look closely at the deer tracks you'll see I added the hint that they're double registering (hind foot is stepping into the same spot as front foot).

Reminder that Fortnite has been doing a whole shitload of terrible things lately, and there are way better games you could be playing.
SO... I'm pretty much done with Fortnite. There were statements made by Tim Sweeney saying that AI usage doesn't need to be disclosed, and then AI usage was found all over this current season- from art to sprays to in-game songs. Between that, and the upcoming shitty wizard collab... Yeah, I'm done.

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

A little talked about symptom of ADHD is Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD).

This is an intense feeling that everyone hates you.

RSD comes in waves, and does not require events to trigger it. You can be walking along with friends having a great time and suddenly you feel an outsider.

Same goes for us and our other imprints. We need to add this to our submission guidelines, but we have zero tolerance for AI slop and its defenders.
Just in case it needs to be made clear, TF Publishing is very firmly anti-AI and will never knowingly use any artificially created content.

Our submission guidelines and FAQ have been updated to reflect this.

These guys are great! I donate every year and may I suggest that some of the crafts they sell on behalf of the elders make great Christmas presents?
Time once again to rep my favorite place for giving: anelder.org - they supply food, firewood and supplies for traditional crafting to Navajo Elders. If you have the cash, please give these folks a hand.

Every time I learn that a game was made using AI, I make a note to never buy it. Every time I learn that a games company is using AI without disclosing it, I make a note to never buy anything from them ever again, even items from their back catalogue predating gen-AI.

Love trying to find some reference images for getting art, except Google search is now worse than useless. I miss the days when you could just... search for something, and lo, you'd get what you'd ask for with minor tweaks at most. Nope! Shopping! AI slop! Completely irrelevant results!

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

I do love peeps complaining they are too poor to afford my less than 5 dollar books while I face the reality that unless I figure out new income streams, we won't be able to afford housing next year...

Most writers ain't rich.

i have never wanted to make a YouTube video before, but now i want to make one that's basically: Books Are Not Free Content For You, Stop Stealing From Authors, You Scabs.

we are not the enemy.
every dollar folks think they're taking from Amazon, they're taking from authors more.

The inverse, where you should never use "said" as a dialogue tag, and only use action beats instead to denote who's speaking.
There are a buttload of style trends tbat masquarade as rules in the #WritingCommunity. Elmore Leonard argued to never use anything but "said." Lots of instructors council against adverb use.

What writing *rule* do you hate?

I was thinking about buying a warbond but surely there's a middle ground that has me not doing that anymore
"Surely there's a middle ground here?" The CEO of Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead says people "jump to extreme takes" when debating generative AI, and that there needs to be more nuance in the discussion.

Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

It looks fun but I'm not touching it.
Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

Heads up for folx playing Arc Raiders: Embark has openly stated (in an interview with GamesRadar+), that the game uses the same AI voice tech as The Finals, and the CEO has talked about using AI to generate 3D models from YouTube rips.

If you're anti-AI you should not be playing Arc Raiders!
