Good lord. This article is excellent, deftly drawing together many criticisms of generalized LLM-AI, damning it all. This is the claxon warning with flashing red lights.

It is absolutely wild that the guy who won’t stop yelling about law and order is now personally stepping in to keep January 6 documents hidden from the police officers who were attacked that day. He knows exactly what’s in those files and he is terrified the country will see it.

In what the Union of Concerned Scientists called "an attack on independent science," the Trump administration has purged all information about human causes of climate change from EPA websites.

"This isn’t just about data on a website; it’s an attack on independent science and scientific integrity," said Dr. Rachel Cleetus at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Part 2 of my Library Newsroom series is out. It starts in 2019, when I launched the Open Newsroom in Brooklyn libraries and tried a simple idea: put journalism where trust already lives. Libraries. I wrote about what we did and how it changed me.

My question to the OCC:
If the President ordered you to weaponize finance against his political enemies, would you tell him ‘no’?

I thought at first that OpenAI was breaking its promise of objectivity. Then I realized it’s just redefining how objectivity functions — something that’s happened over and over. (Gift link!)
ChatGPT’s Self-Serving Optimism
OpenAI’s new guidelines ask its chatbot to celebrate ‘innovation,’ contradicting its stated goal of objectivity—and raising questions about what objectivity even means.

Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.
