When I first read this, I thought it was a table of different derelicts. I laughed when I thought “Ah yes, I’m out for a stroll down the dirt road and there’s a crashed starship. Random, yet totally normal.” XD

Not my world, but showing some love for the Duchy of Ashlar setting. In the nearby village of Ashford, it’s *said* a plague has laid the whole community low. But I find it pretty sus that no one has bothered to check if that’s actually the case. #ttrpg

Authors and Gamemasters, today's world building question!

What are some conspiracy theories in your world? Do your characters believe them?

Had a great time playing Commander at my FLGS this evening! This was my first time attending one of their Commander nights, so I made some good connections, laughed a bunch, and even walked away with a dub!

I understand that it makes me sound old, but man I love libraries!

I can definitely see the appeal, even if I don’t own any myself. I haven’t painted in a while, but when I was doing it a lot, I enjoyed it as a separate hobby, but it got stressful when I tried to put deadlines on it. I also find 3D minis look better next to my terrain, but everyone’s different!

I often do the same thing when cataloguing my previous session notes. I used to just name them by the date, but I could never find any of the info I was looking for. Plus, naming each session makes it feel like an episode of a show!

One kind of TTRPG product I will always justify buying is books of random tables. I rely heavily on random tables in my game prep because it pushes me in directions I wouldn’t normally go. If I don’t have solid ideas for an NPC or location, I roll on some tables and let that spark my creativity #dnd

Can’t go wrong with Andy Weir, I’ve read both ”The Martian” and “Project Hail Mary.” I’m looking forward to the movie next year!

What I mean to say is, it’s an absolute crime that Maid Sama, Toradora, and Ouran Host Club never got second seasons. Fans would love it!

It’s important for storytellers to experience new genres of storytelling. It helps us to continue to grow. Slice-of-life’s emphasis is on relationships, and understanding how relationships can be complicated helps me write better ones for my ttrpg games.

I never realized I would like slice-of-life anime until my wife introduced me to shows like Fruits Basket and Maid Sama. I wasn’t sure if I would like it at first, but I got super invested and now it’s one of my favorite genres of anime!

Agreed, they are both very LOTR coded. Personally, I enjoy dwarves in my world because they reliably fit the same niche, which is supplying metals and gems while protecting the world above from the world beneath. Halflings less so, but I like Eberron’s take where they‘re nomadic and ride dinosaurs

I can see that. For yourself, is it more about dwarves and halflings appearance and aesthetics, or the role they fill in the world?

One of the ways I’d let my players solve this is to find a landmark that has a shadow that points in a particular direction (a church steeple or obelisk). Since all the people’s shadows are on the move, the only shadows you can trust are ones not attached to people.

Scheduling conflicts are the bane of all social functions 😂. Have you considered play by post? I have an online group that meets once a month, and having that alongside our normal session has helped get through some of the side quest stuff.

Who knew sleeping outside in the monster-infested forest™️ would have consequences? 🤷‍♂️

Looks really fun! Is it easy to pick up and play for a one-shot?

Awesome thoughts! I think magic/tech development would depend a lot on a culture’s reception to magical abilities. Historical events, like wars, famines, and plagues might also impact what kind of magic is developed, but I can see magic societies like gnomes being really advanced compared to others.

I didn’t make it very far 😅

I’m feeling creative, so it’s time to do some DnD prep!
