this laughably bad article has zero balance or dissenting voices in an *obviously* contentious issue. it also has explicit permission from ice for their guys to talk on the record, which sort of gives away the game eu.usatoday.com/story/news/n...
Exclusive: A father and his three kids work for ICE. Why they do it
A father, daughter and twin sons are all ICE agents. They see themselves as crime fighters. Others see them as something far worse.

UBI isn't meant to replace the income from all jobs, and we aren't going to lose all jobs, especially if we have UBI to maintain spending. What UBI excels at is functioning as a floor and a dividend to make sure everyone gets a rightful share and a cushion to prevent the worst + enable new pursuits.

Rob Reiner had one of the most wide-ranging audiences of any American filmmaker. People rewatch his films with nostalgia and joy. They quote them with parents and pass them down to children.

Ignore the other one's commentary. It's like a black hole commenting on the sun.

Add to this that HSI just filed a declaration in our case challenging these policies saying they can’t trust REAL IDs as proof of status.

So showing your papers isn’t even enough to end the stop.

Only in America do folks have to beg on GoFundMe for help with medical bills and their countryfolk ACCEPT IT! Shameful!

So, despite Trump giving some lazy lip service to "affordability" his FTC tried to suppress a case of price collusion and market influence by PepsiCo and Walmart to raise prices for PepsiCo products at all of Walmart's competitors...

So, my check engine light came on yesterday. The free diagnostic code report from a normally reputable auto parts store seems to indicate it’s the fuel gauge sensor in the tank which I already knew from direct observation has been broken for at least 6 months.

I read a book on making money in ancient Athens recently (by Michael Leese, it's great), and the Greeks absolutely believed that the endless pursuit of wealth was a serious moral defect and personality issue no different than being a drunk or sexual deviant.
If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.

If you didn't learn about the UK post office scandal already, PBS is running the miniseries "Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office." And it's good glimpse into the microcosm of the dysfunction, ass covering, & incompetence happening at most modern software enterprises & in dealing with their clients.

For what possible reason are they using torture on people arrested for immigration offenses?

In Abu Ghraib, they tried to say they were after information about future terrorist attacks. Stupid and monstrous, but they had a purported 'reason'.

What the fuck is this supposed to be for?

This stage of capitalism in a nutshell
The issue with Neoliberalism isn't that it doesn't work, it's that it only works once. You can sell the family silver once, you can strip the copper out of the walls once, you can burn the furniture to keep warm once. But then you have to come up with something else!

The nurse, a US citizen, 4’11”, 85 lbs, says she was following orders when she was dragged out of her car by masked immigration agents in Florida.

It was the 3rd time she had been stopped and told to produce ID.
