Giving the Sky a try. First book On Tour is out now via Velocity Press. All borrowed opinions my own

Not seen anyone else post this over here so I’m doing my Balearic bit this Friday morning for Ewan’s new Mark Hollis and Talk Talk-inspired mix. It opens, suitably enough, with his solo torch song ‘The Colour Of Spring’ 🫖
Ewan Pearson Spirit of Eden Mix
We asked Ewan to make us a short promo mix and this came in, totalling 32 tracks and clocking in at 2 hours 24 minutes! It opens with the sound of Mark Hollis’s voice as a nice nod to Spirit of Eden a

Cheers to you too @graemethomson.bsky.social! 🫖
Big thanks to @ralphusmoorus.bsky.social for lovely words about Our Secrets Are The Same ("brilliantly captured the beating heart at the centre of this still-evolving Scottish band"), plus my Kate Bush & George Harrison biogs, in his 2025 roundup for Velocity Press

Still thinking about my whirlwind trip to Buenos Aires for Oasis and Ashcroft! Thank you Argentina and thank you River Plate 📚

See you down the front @monkeytennis.bsky.social 🫖
Blimey, the stars have aligned suitably… am on an Inset day marking GCSE mock exams but also have nabbed tickets to see the Pet Shop Boys play their B-Sides and other stuff up Camden way.
Am very pleased.
Now back to looking at diagrams of the formation of waterfalls.

10/10, no notes! 📼
Me at home in 1998 watching my QuickTime download of the trailer for THE PHANTOM MENACE finally hit 98% after 2 hours.

So great being back in Buenos Aires!!! 🇦🇷

By far the most enjoyable Sunday afternoon music thread for my hungover head 😵‍💫
Right, it's Sunday afternoon and therefore time for me to be completely hypocritical again and count down a UK Top 40 singles chart from a year past. This week we're going back 34 years to the chart week ending 9 November 1991. Hold onto that washing machine!

I was *hoping* it would be this!!!! 🫖
Had a total blast with this. Is it a great Predator movie? Not really. But it is a super fun, pulpy alien action adventure movie that feels like an adaptation of the 90s Dark Horse comics. I'd watch more movies with this new clan.

Attention all @bsky.app Beloved heads!! You won’t find a better hour of Balearic power online this week. Absolutely everything came together so as well as oodles of Jon Marsh chat, you’ll also hear ‘Reach For Love’ and new music from Auntie Flo, J Appiah & Jacob Alon www.mixcloud.com/VoicesRadio/...

As per most of my own (beloved!) boxes, the word ‘useful’ is doing some heavy lifting: that picture disc belongs in a museum!
Finally, found a crate with useful stuff in it!

I’ve always loved this album. The duet with Michael Stipe (‘Trout’) is a beaut 🎣

Bravo on all The Beloved in there 🫖
Automatically buying any old record if it has the word Balearic on it, thats how I deal with the evenings drawing in…

An extended thread to remember Dave Ball by. R.I.P. to a production master 🪐
Soft Cell were an equal partnership who, when firing on all cylinders as usual, were unbeatable. You get the best sense of how brilliant Dave Ball was (and Marc too) on the 12" mixes of singles. Some of the greatest records of all time.

Memorabilia goes hard as hell.

“Mastering + 100 CDs = £564”: this is a brilliant thread for anyone wondering what the costs of self-releasing and dabbling in physical music are in 2025 🫖
The economics of self-releasing music as physical media, a thread.
My first self-released CD is SEA OTTERS by The Bionics, an album of Not-Quite-Techno made in a very analogue way, and on our Bandcamp page along with 17 back catalogue treats.

Hard to compute at this point 💔
Heartbreaking: Neo-soul legends Angie Stone and D’Angelo both passed away in 2025, just 7 months apart. Stone died in March at 63. D’Angelo died today at 51. They shared a son together. An entire generation’s soundtrack, gone. Rest in power to both 🕊️💔

I am ready 🍿
My next book will be a biography of Jack Nicholson, written as an epic story of the transformation of the movie industry and modern masculinity from the 1950s to the present, with Nicholson as the main character. The title: Leading Man.

Had a brilliant time doing a short On Tour book reading at The Social on Little Portland Street last night… which just gave me time to head back to Islington for Jamie Woon! It’s just so good to have him back and Union Chapel the perfect venue 📚

Precisely this! Thank you for saying it @patrickzircher.bsky.social 📚
I liked the idea that Diane Keaton was out there, somewhere, being Diane Keaton.
--sigh--

Rest in peace, Annie Hall.

Last night was THEE BEST! Talks from Hawtin and the original Muzik Magazine staff (including yours truly at the end) plus some blistering techno from Hawtin in the main room at Koko from 3AM. The games continue tonight with a talk between me and the original End creative team and Tenaglia to close 🫖
