Good on DIA for saying NO to Trump and Secretary Noem’s extreme partisan video.

Using security checkpoints to score political points is illegal and has no place in our federal agencies.

Just scanned this one in. I don't think it needs a lot of work but wanted to share it. Thought it turned out pretty good.

So! We're very happy with the response to the micro-excerpt call! Some really good stuff you people have been sending us. Keep them coming, please!

We've arranged a special issue (#63) to be released 18 January, a dark center of a dark winter month, & bright work emerging.

This all makes us happy.

Horrible situation in Pagosa Springs, where 3.05” of rain in the last 2 1/2 days has led to devastation in downtown Pagosa. Thinking of our friends there. What a beautiful place.

How many times does this have to happen before someone realizes they are in over their heads? Geez.

The Trump administration on Saturday scrambled to rescind layoffs of hundreds of CDC scientists who were mistakenly fired on Friday night in what appeared to be a substantial procedural lapse.

Enjoyed Helen's visit with us this morning SO MUCH. What a great writer and a wonderful person, to boot.

A story in Helen McClory's collection, "Lore," creeped me out so much I still remembered it years after I read it. It's in her wonderful collection, MAYHEM & DEATH. It's available at 404 Ink if you're in the UK.

I love this - and I remember when our group discussed that story that I, too, thought the dialogue was superbly well done. So glad to see these folks agree with me!

We're bringing back excerpt submissions from unpublished novels and novellas, but adding a criterion: 200 words max length.

All other prose, fiction and poetry submissions still have no length limit.

I am here to sing the praises of critique groups and their associated deadlines - without them, I would not have worked on revising this story today. It's been sitting on my desk as a half-baked attempt at a story for months now. So much better after just an hour of work!

Yay! We're getting a new 155-acre park in a nearby neighborhood. Used to be a golf course but now it'll be biking and running trails, etc. This has been a long time coming.
Park Hill Park will open to Denverites on Oct. 28
A land swap deal between the city and developer Westside is complete.

Portland is doing it right!

This regime is a rickety treehouse full of bullies who want to force respect rather than earn it. Clowning on them strips all that posturing down to the weakness at its core.

Creative and joyful resistance is their kryptonite.

Portland is so good at trolling these fascists.

Met several people who became IRL close friends. Found a vibrant community of writers that would have been impossible to bring into my life any other way since they are from all over the place.

And, just to help other authors, here's more details about the scam: they said my recently-published e-book had been shortlisted for a book of the month pick by NoNameBooks.com which IS a legitimate organization - but the person who emailed me is probably not part of it.
Scam email I just received saying it's from NoName Book Club - which it isn't.

Sigh. Almost fell for an emailed scam. They weren't asking me for anything, so I didn't immediately put 2 & 2 together. Sending it to the spam folder now....

Last week ushered in Spookymonth like a full house (of Usher)…and this week, our hand is all queens. To wit: Lauren Parker makes her Story Hour debut, Rachel Unger is again among us! Join us Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. PDT! @laurenparker.bsky.social @rachelunger.bsky.social www.storyhour2020.com
Waist-up color photo of writer Lauren Parker, a fair-skinned woman with short hair dyed bright pink and tattoos on both arms. She wears a strapless smocked top (or perhaps a dress) in a pink floral, one large ring on each hand, a watch with a metal band, dangling earrings, a septum ring, large plastic-framed glasses, and bright pink lipstick. She is in what appears to be a large room with wood paneling; large speakers loom on the ceiling. She stands before a microphone, sheets of white paper in hand, and looks out to the audience with her face alert and almost smiling. Full-body color photo of writer Rachel Unger, a fair-skinned woman with brown hair in pigtails. She wears a blue-and-orange bike jersey, black bike shorts, sunglasses, cycling shoes, and a white bike helmet. This is because she is on a black-and-green Cannondale bicycle, having just completed the AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride. Palm trees, blue sky, sandy beach, and onlookers form a background. She smiles broadly, joyfully, into the camera.

Scam alert: there's an IngramSpark impersonator at ingramsparkbookpublishers dot com. Part of a wave of publishing/ghostwriting scams from Pakistan that hijack authors looking to self-publish--they often "borrow" well-known publisher names but this one also "borrows" the real IngramSpark's logo
Screenshot of IngramSpark impersonator's contact form, with chat window where scammer sales rep "Travis Clark" claims that "We are Ingram Spark's hands-on services department. You will be able to find our information here: https://www.ingramsparkbookpublishers.com/
