The remnants of Typhoon Halong appear to have potentially set a local ERA5 record (1950-2024) for lowest MSLP for the month of October:

Still keeping an eye on Denver's first potential freeze, maybe first potential snow in the ~7-10 day window.

A couple of big troughs move through. Question is how far south they'll go. Stay tuned!

A few showers tomorrow afternoon, a proper taste of fall Thursday-Sunday, and perhaps something more interesting in the 7-10 day window.

Some truly crazy rain totals in parts of the San Juans. Worst rainstorm in some spots in 80+ years.

Unfortunately...more rain on the way there tomorrow/Tuesday.

Frost Advisory tonight for northern Colorado including Greeley + Fort Collins. Lows may briefly touch 32° in a few spots here tonight.

*Rain is not done yet in SW Colorado*

After 5"+ of rain in parts of SW Colorado, another 1-3"+ possible in the hard-hit San Juans tomorrow + Tuesday.

Flood woes in SW Colorado may unfortunately get worse before they get better.

I guess they won at least 🤷‍♂️

Snowy Breck! ❄️

A bit of snow this morning at or above pass level…a few slushy inches of accumulation likely above 10k feet in elevation.

Horrible situation in Pagosa Springs, where 3.05” of rain in the last 2 1/2 days has led to devastation in downtown Pagosa. Thinking of our friends there. What a beautiful place.

First big snow of the season for the Sierra thanks to a big cold upper low moving down the coast from Pac NW then across CA in days ahead. Widespread 1-2+ feet expected per NWS.
Sierra snowfall forecast shows a max of 3 feet with many of the resorts picking up a solid pasting.

🍃 Mostly sunny and breezy after a cold front this morning, with a high around 70°. Winds will gust 20-30 mph through the day, but it’ll stay dry.

🌦️ Cooler tomorrow (highs in the low 60s) with a few afternoon showers and storms. Warmer Tuesday and Wednesday.

Good context on an historic Western Slope rainstorm from my colleague Cory Reppenhagen.

And more rain moves in Monday-Tuesday.

Rain is likely done for the night in Denver/Boulder…no issues for Paul McCartney tonight

Definitely a bit rainier this afternoon than I thought it’d be…looks like the surface low set up further south than modeling had it yesterday.

Result = more rain. Zero complaints on my end tbh

2:40p: Steady light rain from I-70 on north…expect this to continue for the next hour or two.

Little/no lightning threat from this (thinking of CU).

Event weather today:

CU football (1:30p): Decreasing clouds and a 30% shower chance, mainly in the 1st half. Some sun possible 2nd half. Temps in the 60s. Bring the rain jacket.

🌦️ Morning clouds and showers will clear up this afternoon. Highs in the low 70s in Denver. Should be dry for the Paul McCartney concert tonight!

🍃 A bit breezier tomorrow before a notably cooler Monday (highs in the low 60s) before a few showers return Tuesday.

Now Grand Junction’s wettest day in over *50 years*!

1.35” = wettest day since July 18, 1974, and tied for 7th-wettest on record.

And likely a bit more to go…

Wettest day in Grand Junction in over 20 years!

1.20" of rain in Grand Junction so far today = 15th-wettest day on record. And definitely more to go.

Grand Junction only averages 8.8" of rain a *year*...this is a big deal.

Showers tomorrow will mainly be in the morning before some afternoon sun. Brief cooldown and maybe a few showers on Tuesday, otherwise quiet.

Watching for a pattern flip and a potentially more active stretch in the 7-10 day window.

5:13p: A few lighter showers on the west and south sides of town, will have a chance for a few of these in Denver tonight.

Nothing too heavy, but def bring the rain jacket for any outdoor plans tonight.

Definitely leaning wetter/cooler next weekend for Colorado (8-14 day outlook). Good chance we're dealing with a solid mountain snow event, and perhaps our first Denver freeze.

Will keep you posted as always...

First Denver snow next weekend? Probably not, but worth a watch.

Two big troughs likely swing through Oct. 19-23. Euro deterministic (blue line on graphic below) bullish on a more southern track...ensemble mean (green line) says not so fast.

Worth a watch though.
