By suppressing opposition speech and closing the civic space that enables citizens to organize, this strategy consolidates power around the autocratic figure or the ruling party.”
“The goal of this strategy is to eliminate independent media which both enables robust public discourse, and serves as a check on the government. This is part of a broader pattern of attacking civil society...

Authoritarianism doesn't happen in a vacuum. It requires enablers. When a leader posts fantasies of monarchical rule, and his entire party looks the other way, they become complicit. The issue isn't just Trump's posts; it's the institutional decay of a party that refuses to be a check on his power.

“We found over 35 cases in which the judges have specifically said what the government is providing…false information. It might be intentionally false information, including false sworn declarations time and again," says Ryan Goodman, law professor at New York University.

This will be a nonviolent, peaceful protest. We come not with fear but with hope. We come to remind our government: we are watching. We will speak. We will gather. We will insist: power must answer to the consent of the people in our democracy.

OANN, anyone care to explain the government's role in your hiring decisions or do we need to FOIA to find out?

"Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents. They’ve had their necks kneeled on. They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear. At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them."
NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.

"Jewish Americans told us —by a margin of nearly 3 to 1— that Trump manipulates antisemitism dishonestly, using it as an excuse to pause or cut university funding. Only about one-fourth of all Jews nationwide believe the president “truly cares about protecting Jewish students on college campuses.”"
Commentary: A wide majority of Jewish Americans say President Trump is exploiting antisemitism in disingenuous fashion — that it’s a thinly veiled disguise to justify his assault on higher education, as revealed by a national survey.

The Roberts Court has found a minority to protect—not a racial or religious one, but a political party whose power will endure without electoral majority support. Louisiana v. Callais could hand Republicans a dozen House seats and make that imbalance permanent. This is autocratic legalism in action.
