Cats, bikes, urban policy and evidence-based policy generally, environment, books, quilts, and lots of randomness. GenX. Canada.

Let's try not to make things worse, shall we?

A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

I really try to make jokes and find fun ways to spin terrible news on here, but I read this and the only thing I have to say about it is that Doug Ford is a piece of shit who shouldn't be running an Arby's, let alone a province. Fuck you, Doug. share.google/gPPqvtiuqD0O...
Ford tells protesters to 'go find a job' as controversial housing bill passes at Queen's Park | CBC News
Shouts and chants rained down upon politicians at the Ontario legislature Monday as the government passed a housing bill that critics say makes it easier for landlords to evict tenants.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

On the flip side, a cyclist using their bell is just saying "I am here". It's not rude. When I'm cycling, if I want to be rude or mean to you, I will use my words and the meaning will be extremely clear, I promise.
hi motorists. So, when you use your horn to get a cyclist's attention, you're using a device designed to make a sound loud enough to penetrate layers of metal & glass. How'd you like an air horn in your ear while you're concentrating on something that could get you hurt or killed if you flinched?

People who ride bikes are already good at manual shifting, so they could probably learn quickly. And if not, I guess they can steal a bike! Bikes are excellent apocalypse transportation.
True, there are very few stick shift cars around these days.

HOWEVER, you never know if the car you might have to steal after the apocalypse turns out to have a manual transmission, and won't you be glad you prepared for the moment by taking driving lessons now, advises a person who will teach you

I mean, of course bike lanes are good for business! More people can get there easily! You can park 12-20 bikes in the same space as one car! Kudos to the Annex BIA for being fact-driven.
WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
