Historian here OTD a day that will live in infamy we need to point out that the reconstruction of Japan and Germany proved to be successful after WWII but the Reconstruction of the misbegotten Confederacy was brutally overthrown. We still live with the legacy of that history in the United States.

We too often look at prices when talking about affordability & not enough at wages. As Harold Meyerson explains, had the bottom 90% earned the same share of national income they did in 1975, by 2023 they would have made an additional $79 trillion!

The $79 Trillion Heist - The American Prospect
We’re in an affordability crisis because workers aren’t being paid at the same levels they earned in the past.

A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."

Tonight's dinner came out well:

LA Galbi (homemade marinade, marinaded for 24 hours), and potatoes dauphinoise (gouda, havarti, and cheddar cheeses).

The ribs were cut a bit thick for my liking, but they still tasted delicious, and I have enough leftovers for tomorrow.

Historian of eugenics here. I don't normally like to retweet bad arguments, but this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of eugenics, I think it's important to point out. I don't have time to debunk all of the ways this is inaccurate, but I'll highlight a few things and then recommend some books🧵

How it started: "Ooh, someone new left a rating on my story! Gosh, that's exciting!"
How it's going: "Oh, it was a low enough rating to drop me seven hundred points on the rankings."

Ah, well. Another day, another proof of my creative mediocrity.

Yolo often stands with his little back toes crossed, which I find ridiculously cute!
You can see vultures don't have bulky feet and talons built for grasping/carrying like other raptors. Their more chicken-like feet are meant for bracing on food to pull at it with their powerful beaks, instead.

My bipartisan IRS MATH Act with Senator Bill Cassidy is now law.

Now, if you mess up your taxes, the IRS has to tell you where you made a mistake and how to fix it.

No more spending a fortune on lawyers or hours to find errors.

That means fewer headaches and more money in your pocket.

There are thin tubes that connect the corner of your eye to your nose.

The tears that don’t run down your face will drain into your nose, which is why your nose runs when you cry.

Keep the tissues close as you pivot to romantic holiday movies this season.

I bought a mandolin. The murderous chopping tool, yes. I was very excited.

The mandolin is gone.

What did I do with it?? I don't know! I've never used it! But it is absolutely nowhere in my kitchen, or so I shall swear until the moment I randomly find it and go, "Huh, thought I looked there."

I slept wrong last night.

I am also in my 40s, which means that because I slept wrong, all day an eldritch horror has been trying to birth itself from my spinal column. I am bravely resisting its deadly incursion into the world.

You're all welcome. Plz send painkillers.

I have a precarious relationship to humor. I have a strong vicarious humiliation reflex, which makes most sitcoms and 'funny movies' painful for me. But things like Whose Line Is It Anyway and Taskmaster just work for me; I think because everyone is gleefully being ridiculous. Like visual punning.

In Central America and Mexico, the practice is known as milpa, and it dates back thousands of years. 🧵⬇️
