Hey, this is a long shot but maybe someone on here can help. My sister and her wife were accepted to university in Rennes and need to move there before the January term starts, but they’re having trouble finding housing.

Can anyone rent them a room? Even short term is helpful.

I got life-changingly sick right around when I defended. I could not have relocated, and also there were no jobs in organic semiconductors.

I went to a random symposium on campus because I’m a seminar junkie, met someone at an industry poster session, and now I do photonics.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

In the aurora, both reds and greens come from fluorescence from oxygen, mostly the from the 1S excited state (green) and from the 1D excited state (red)

The 1D state has a lifetime of >150 seconds, whereas the 1S state has a lifetime of ~1 second

Doesn’t happen often, but on rare occasions, someone does something so damn cool with organic semiconductors that even I’m impressed

Patriarchy tolerates violence from men while insisting you soften your words and be “nice” and never get visibly angry?

🤝

Barbarian suddenly feeling weak and taking full damage after a long fight?

Problematic rage gap
Adversary countries producing viral particles to destroy bacteria while you can't?

Problematic phage gap
Electric field not invariant to transformation?

Problematic gauge gap.

What perfect album came out when you turned 16?

Note: This one’s an amazing straight-through album for a breakup.

Note also: I skipped a grade, so I feel like I should be able to claim Blackwater Park instead - released right around my 15th birthday. My favorite album for the past 20+ years.

as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so. The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement,

Back on my insomniac medical journal reading bullshit, for reasons. Surprised at how much sense the papers make now vs. 10 years ago when I was new to this.

In short : a speckle essentially has a random polarization state at any position, we exploit this to show we can violate a BI.

Color doesn’t exist outside the brain. 🧠

From fruit flies to humans, perception transforms raw light into hues, even nonspectral ones like purple. New work is mapping the neural circuits that make color possible. 🎨

Occasionally I have a dream where I’m arguing with someone about organic chemistry and I say something and wake up and…it was perfectly correct and coherent

Damn, It’s in my brain pretty deep. And I miss it terribly. I like waferland but I am, technically, a long way from home 😭

I agree with this and I don’t. There are a lot of grey areas, and humans are vicious and will kill each other with hammers. But we have a responsibility to build only the things that can help us build a better world, and that excludes a lot.
Technology is morally neutral, it's how we use technology that determines everything
