This was one of my observations about the first @protocolsforpublishers.com session we had in New York. Quite a lot of discussion of chatbots as disruption of consumer relationships with news and not much past that.
Last night, someone on this here website told me that no one is using AI agents yet and they're still way far in the future. But it's already happening.

A friend last year told me that most people are distracted by the idea that AI is "chatbots." I didn't get that at the time, but now I think I do.
"For much of the country, AI has come to mean ChatGPT, Google’s AI overviews, and the slop that now clogs social-media feeds. Meanwhile, tech hobbyists are becoming radicalized by bots that can work for hours on end, collapsing months of work into weeks, or weeks into an afternoon."

@standard.site Went to file an issue on Tangled, but not there anymore?

In London we talked about a BYLINE field pointing to an writer's ATProto account separate from the publication. This is for journalists that write documents stored on a Publication's PDS, but ensuring they get credit. Thoughts?

One of the things we’ve been able to do with funds granted to us by you all, sponsors, and @freeourfeeds.com is pay it forward to other independent events like the @protocolsforpublishers.com for publishers series.

Checking bsky and saw @jimray.bsky.team was streaming… dropped in and it was BSky office hours… and they were talking about #PfP✨London 😊! Jim and other ATProto folks came. The event was sponsored in part by @bsky.app and @atprotocol.dev Community Fund! Thanks 👏! An event recap will be up soon!
Next is some chatter about @protocolsforpublishers.com which recently had an event in London, "the did a really great job of organising it, and getting everyone together and mixing"

Notes are up on their website.

Just wrote a new post for @podcaststandards.bsky.social members:

"We need to play the game on the field: understand what genuinely motivates podcasters and listeners and respond with features they care about.

But, we're trying to change the game."

Playing the game on the field
If we're going to introduce new RSS-based features, they should reflect what podcasters and listeners want. The biggest danger to our project is adopting our own pet-projects instead of building stuff...

At #PfPLondon, we heard powerful ideas on the future of publishing.
@aendra.com showed how publishers can design their own newsfeeds on Bluesky. Interledger argued for micropayments to save journalism. @newsmastfoundation.org shared how it built a news app to support community-led local journalism.

It’s not a viable market product in a market where big tech platforms control distribution and tip the scales towards an endless supply of teenagers working free.

Every media company should be chasing the open social web to break that control wide open and reshape the market
High-quality journalism is not a viable market product. If you want consistent high-quality journalism, you need some kind of subsidy.

ANY billionaire could set up the WaPo as a high-quality journalism outlet, accept that it's not going to make money, & simply subsidize it. Nothing stopping them.

the @newsmastfoundation.org x Bristol Cable collab that was showcased at @protocolsforpublishers.com London last night was an example of this pattern

they just... did it.
"Why do people keep calling for a 'European X' or a 'European Instagram' when instead, by sharing infrastructure as we're doing with @eurosky.social, we could have 20 or 30 social networks?" — @seabass.bsky.social

How do publishers and open protocols intersect? I had no idea! Honestly, I'm still not sure. But the event I went to, @protocolsforpublishers.com, was quite interesting and tried to give us some answers.
