Thanks - definitely adding snacks to the list!
It's a small town in a remote area, so not a lot of services. But her sister and BIL live in town and will be checking regularly (sister is formidable), other family and friends are in town. She also has a companion who will visit daily.
Thank you! Unfortunately we had to buy a new bed for her as they recommend a twin and she has a queen, so new bedding too. But lots of furnishings from home, she has a bay window with plants from home. Can't really operate a phone anymore, which is hard (she has PPA which lacks standard stages).
Those who've moved a loved one into memory care or assisted living - what's one thing you wish you would've included on your packing list?

Moving my MIL this weekend with less than a week of prep and feeling like something is missing from my list.
One of the most unexpected (laudatory) developments of 2025 is seeing fellow designers radicalize.
I apologize interior designer and Bravo reality TV star Jennifer Welch, I was not familiar with your game 👀
It’s a simple yes or no question.

This is a vile lie at this point and people who know this guy should tell him to knock it the fuck off.

FWIW, the meaning of the quote, which is a paraphrase of Ziblatt, is that the Republican Party be strong enough to eject Nazis. It’s not a comment about giving them power.
The Pelosi quote means the opposite of what this asshole claims.

Showing up to No Kings with a sign reading “monarchy is an affront to human dignity but, when incorporated into a liberal democratic system, may nevertheless be a useful safety valve for nationalist and/or authoritarian impulses” and then getting clobbered by a Buttigieg-supporting grandmother
Incidentally, I’ve been chafing a bit at the “No Kings” thing, because there are loads of monarchies that have more limits on executive power than the US does, but it has the great advantage that it makes Americans who want to oppose it sound, well, unamerican….
one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

We are living through the most consequential shift in the constitutional government of the United States in over a hundred and fifty years and nobody seems to have even noticed yet.
Congress no longer holds the power of the purse, the executive can just do whatever they want with federal monies

KABC 7 presents an interview with christopher columbus brought to you by ChatGPT. mr columbus what can you tell us about the legacy of your voyages

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh! AAAAAAAHHHHH! IM IN HELLLLLL! IM BURNING! IN HELLLLLLL!!!!
The Rules had me by the neck back in the day. They made the transition from dating to a healthy LTR difficult because I was so stuck in that disordered headspace.
Best smell in the world? Baby heads
Second best smell in the world? Pine duff
The base of a very large white pine tree. The ground is blanketed with pine duff. In the background is a creek and cedar trees.
I know it’s a joke but picking up bootleg vaccines on dry ice from a drop site on Lac La Croix might be a lucrative business someday
The accent really sends it over the top, and I say that as a midwesterner. It sounds like a poisonous tater tot hot dish.
There is so much more! If anyone ever read the texts between me and my friend (who also left the studio, source for townie insider info), they’d be have to block out a day just to process
I kept a very sanitized low profile at dance because I do not need snake juice like that in my life
I’d have to go into witness protection, seriously. One mom went after another mom for snubbing her daughter in an outside extracurricular and the fallout involves CPS being called, stalking, mutual restraining orders
Shortly after I stopped being a dance mom I learned about privacy glass screen protectors for phones and that the whole last miserable year I could’ve been talking shit about the other moms while sitting right next to them

Anyway, unlike the guy in this story, my phone now has a privacy screen
a White House staffer was just tapping away all kinds of shit talk in the secret secure Signal chat in a place where someone could take *numerous* photographs of his phone screen undetected and walk them over to the Minnesota Star-Tribune
A niche class I took in college that turned out to be the underpinning of so many other social science topics was the geography of soils, and this thread is much like that class. It’s got everything! Agriculture, history, economics, geology - what more do you need?
Farm fact: the South is famous for clayey red soil, but a lot of it is actually... sand. Like beach sand. See the yellow on the map here.

Why? It IS beach sand. That's where the shoreline was during the Cretaceous.
Soil map of the US. The Southeast has a big wide strip of yellow (map legend for sand) that wraps around the coast & goes 100-200 miles inland. Map of North America during the Cretaceous. Most people pay attention to the western interior seaway, but a lot of the east coast was underwater.
Wine mom convo topics after tonight’s [school sports event]:
- how to recall a school board member
- that someone’s neighbor has pigs
- that the neighbor with pigs said it would take about a week to make someone disappear
- that pigs can’t digest teeth so you have to check the manure

I know these guys are all dumber than a sack of hammers, but it is fascinating to see the military decide “logistics are gay” in real time

“‘My building is shaking. So, I'm like, “What is that?” Then I look out the window, it's a Blackhawk helicopter,’ said witness Dr. Alii Muhammad.”

Raiding a Chicago apartment building from above as if they were on a mission to capture Osama bin Laden. Absolutely demented.
“ABC7 spoke to Pertissue Fisher, a woman who lives in the building. She said ICE agents took everyone in the building, including her, and asked questions later….’They was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other.’”

It can’t happen here, you say. But it is happening.

(*That a super's insurance would cover it)
My favorite GC won't touch a gas fitting except to turn it off before demo - his insurance explicitly bans any installs, even without a fitting change. It surprises me that a super's insurance would!

Honestly, after a very bad install on my own gas cooktop, I'm team plumber-only too.
