This is uhhh pretty backwards but if you genuinely think this is how businesses operate I can understand why you’d be disgruntled at the economy all the time!
Because capitalism is basically predatory. You see someone else charging higher prices and you do the same whether or not you "need" to because it's what the traffic will bear.

wanting to reduce housing stock for future generations to move to places that people want to live in is real great, but I guess acquiescing the current voters over potential new voters is boomer era politics in a nutshell
it's why left-YIMBYism is, imo, the correct position from a political economy point of view. the trade offs of rent control vs zoning + development reform really mean that the costs of the former are offset by the latter
yeah i'm not being funny but most arguments against rent controls, while they may be /economically/ sound, are bad from the perspective of /political/ economy

Couldn’t be happier for a guy career ending he killed shapiro career and for that I want him to rot in his small podunk pa town
For the record I don't think he has a future in the private sector like Sinema did. He either switches or doesn't switch. Loses the primary either way

a lot of left nimbyism happens in places where you should naturally see up zoning and high density. no one lives in nyc cause they don't like living on top of another person. but there's no reason to up zone a suburb like Vienna before you look at Arlington or Alexandria
A lot of arguments criticizing left-NIMBYism blocking housing through environmentalism, historic preservation and the like (often deservedly so), comparatively little explanation of right-NIMBYism that's basically "we don't want those people to turn our neighborhood into the city we are afraid of."

Maybe my most anti-woke opinion is that this type of thing is really annoying. Columbus Day isn’t about what a great guy he was, it’s commemorating discovery of the Americas by Europeans
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

every morning i wake up and jump over bullet casings on my walk to the blue line, i duck and cover regularly when i see a car slowly rolling by
I couldn’t tell, at first glance, if this was a scene from the war zone that is Chicago or a clip from “Saving Private Ryan”.
Congratulations to all the runners today at the Chicago Marathon!

I hope you’re taking a moment after crossing the finish line and enjoying all that the best big city in the nation has to offer.

People watched pretty woman and thought that is how most CEOs operate
If you haven’t personally experienced a hostile takeover where the new CEO is just there to strip a company for parts and make as much profit for himself and the board as possible before declaring bankruptcy, welcome America.

You’re living it now.

Just admit you are as fucking hack man it’s getting tiring you aren’t that smart you are actually pretty dumb
Josh my argument isn’t “absolute.” I’m saying that if inflation explains the 2024 result, or was some major causative factor, draw some conclusions from that, tell us what it predicts about the future, or how it matches past trends. Because otherwise you’re just waving your hands around
Not sure either. But these absolute arguments are ones that can't really convince any intelligent/engaged person. The arguments you summarize here are good ones but the absoluteness of his argument makes them kind of meaningless. My general take is that theres a lot of negativity based on real ...

Both of these things can be true:

1. Auburn was on the bad side of some questionable, controversial calls last night.

2. Auburn lost not because of that, but because it didn't handle that well, as Hugh Freeze and players basically admitted.

Auburn-Georgia officiating was a mess. But it wasn’t the only reason the Tigers lost
Auburn had control of the game against Georgia — until it lost control, after a series of calls that didn’t go its way.

im loving the mask off moment for will that is basically he wants to run double digit inflation numbers cause he doesnt give a fuck and wants to burn it all down and for once the voters were like nah man we dont want your shithole policies that gave us 9+% for a year
“Inflation caused 2024” is a comfortable and appealing explanation for a lot of people - it reinforces their patronizing sense that most voters are selfish little piggies with no inner life, it promises that things will be back to normal next time - but there’s really not any evidence of it
