A tan image includes the black Nerve to Write logo featuring a raspberry-colored neuron in the top left corner and the dark purple words “A Magazine for Disabled, Chronically Ill, and Neurodivergent Writers” along with the raspberry words “Now open for submissions” and the purple text “nervetowrite.com.” In the top right and bottom left corner of the black neurons stretch off the image.

Good news! I did enough gentle stretches and drank enough water that my arms are punk-adjacent again! I will just barely rock the open mic tonight!!

All the wall painting yesterday might force me to change what I wanted to play at the open mic tonight. My arms are not even punk-adjacent.

It is such a treat when my guitar teacher breaks out his vintage gear. Today, it was his 50-year-old Fender tube amp, and what a delicious feast for my earballs!

Agatha Christie is such perfect fall reading. My book instincts this week are on target.

(I picked up Third Girl from the library this morning.)

Oooh. May need to learn that one too!

My spouse put this one on a mixed CD for me when we were dating, and it still cracks me up.

Either "All My Little Words" or "The Book of Love". We'll see where my brain is this evening.

Just a much gentler song. Probably some Magnetic Fields instead of The Clash.

May your day yield rewards for hard work.. like the way my cat just earned his turkey bone by digging through the organics bin like a coked-up raccoon, dragging gross, wet mess across my kitchen floor.

Well, "some" really does vary from person to person. You can absolutely decide what "some" means to you.

Genres aren't real. They are mental projections we impose on stories to simplify the way talk about and sell them but stories come unshaped from deep within us and writers shouldn't feel constrained by or even respect genres at all. The story comes first.

Listening to Fabulous Disaster's entire discography while painting my spouse's new home office has felt thematically appropriate.

Historically and still today, most great literature is self-published (“vanity”) or published by someone’s friend or a small press. You shouldn’t limit your reading to large presses b/c that’s not where stuff really “happens.”

Print copies are here! They've escaped Canada Post strike purgatory!

I'm keeping a paperback 'cause even though I cook these recipes a lot, I don't have them all memorized.

Sending 2 each to Library and Archives Canada and will scatter some among the Little Free Libraries in #NewWest.
A pile of paperback copies next to a pile of hardcover copies of the book *After the Feast*, which has a green cover and an illustration of a partly carved turkey on a wooden cutting board.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, my fellow Canadians!
cdnhistoryehx.bsky.social
Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

NEW POEM #273: "After Camping With Jeff in the Dismal Swamp I Consider Companionship" by Dustin King

May I extrapolate from this that we live on giant space pudding? Because that would be adorable!

Oh no Hurricane Me has been downgraded to a tropical storm. I'm heading out to sea to gather more energy, but I'll probably just dissipate after the pumpkin pies are in the oven.

(Even though I knew better, I sat down.)

The PDF is FREE. If you buy a print copy, $2 will support food security initiatives through the Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre.
