This is amazing research by Nadia Heninger and her co-authors Wenyi Morty Zhang, Annie Dai, Keegan Ryan, Dave Levin and Aaron Schulman. TL;DR a huge number of satellite links over our heads are totally unencrypted. satcom.sysnet.ucsd.edu

I cannot imagine how infuriated I'd be in this moment if I owned the speakers and was looking for support. Brands really need to be more cognizant of how this makes customers (and potential customers) feel.

Wanted to look at the new line of Polk Audio speakers. Got about 5 pages into the site and got a Cloudflare block. I'm not using a VPN or anything else wonky. No more research into Polk for me.

It's truly surprising how sensitive I am to being told I'm not wanted somewhere. I just go elsewhere. /1

Filling classrooms with computers didn't have the huge and positive impact on learning that was promised. Filling them with tablets hasn't done it either.

I know this might sound absurd to many (especially politicians) but what if we filled them with highly skilled and properly supported educators?
Say it often, say it loud:

"Overall, research has not supported the common-sense presumption that digital approaches to schooling are better than non-digital alternatives. At the broadest level, widespread computer use in education has been found to be associated with lower student achievement."
Fit for Purpose? How Today’s Commercial Digital Platforms Subvert Key Goals of Public Education
Digital educational platforms have become ubiquitous in American classrooms, with tools like Google Workspace for Education, Kahoot!, Zearn, Khan Academy, and many others now structuring curriculum, i...

She basically invented astrophysics.
She proved the laws of chemistry, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics, not just gravity, applied universally.
She determined the composition of the sun and primacy of hydrogen in the universe.
She advised the PhDs of Frank Drake and Frank Kameny.
Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin ✨ figured out what stars are made of ✨ when she was just 25. 🔭🧪

Her PhD thesis basically established the Harvard astro department — at a time when Harvard didn't officially allow woman students.

I wrote this little profile to mark the 100th anniversary of her thesis:

The Process: From start to finish

While the Scientific Method gives us a way to evaluate a hypothesis, a Scientific Process allows us to organize our minds to form these hypotheses, lay out a piece of code, organize a project, or debug a program.

Does anyone I know have (or have had) Sonesse (Somfy) roller shades? Can you share your thoughts and opinions and experiences?
You know the Vipper of Vipp is a CEO insisting on AI use. Might want to rethink that visit.
Given what I'm seeing on email and on linkedin, the world seems intensely focused on (perhaps even desperate to be) deploying capital. Sign of the times. Make of it what you will.
I don't think anyone truly understands the scope and the consequences of this.

On Friday, the U.S. is ending its de minimis rule that made it easy for cheap goods to reach consumers. The change will affect roughly 4 million such packages processed each day.
What will the end of the 'de minimis' rule mean for U.S. consumers?

In my experience, MOST people do not want to haggle for what they're worth. The process is demeaning because in that process you argue your worth against your employer (who necessarily argues a lesser worth).

This will not end well b/c our flavor (all flavors?) of capitalism must devalue labor.
Love my Pit Boss. It is my 5th smoker and by far my favorite.
If I was looking for good Portugese Flannel (in Portugal), where world you suggest I start?
And, amazingly, all good typesetting systems ignore the amount of spaces between sentences, so using 1, 2, or 100 will still result in the same PDF/print.

In print, people who use 2 spaces can continue on blissfully and joyfully using 2 spaces.
It's not corny. It's a simply-stated set of values. It allows you to remain on mission, it allows others to understand what you claim to hold yourself to so as to manage expectations.

Unexpected things I did today: disassembled my generator control board to to meticulously clean out an ant infestation. Also reassembled it. I am not a big bug fan.
