Bless that person’s heart. Of course sci fi & trek loving women exist in significant numbers. Men just tend to gatekeep them out of their fandom spaces so women just create their own circles.

And now for today's good news ... a wonderful librarian now has a full time job getting people excited about books. All kinds of books. Even the diverse ones that the government doesn't want you to read.
OMG! Mychal did it. Anyone who first caught this wonderful human gaining an audience on TikTok knew there was something special happening. What an incredible journey and story. Promoting reading and libraries is so damn important right now, and I can't think of a better ambassador.

With the news of the Kennedy Center Honors, EVERYONE needs to make art. Make bad art. Make good art. Make art because fascism destroys it and tries to bend it to its will. Make art they can’t contain. Make it public. Make it loud. Make it rebellious. Write, paint, draw, dance, sing, sculpt

MAKE ART
I would love to see those recommendations. I have one of those finicky yarn winders. It would be nice to find something that requires much less…intervention on my part
Amen to that. A couple of friends and I adored Star Wars. We devoured the Legends novels as they were released. We happily geeked out with the male SW fan friends who could be cool with us. It was just that far too many guys were the worst kind of gatekeepers.
I keep having the thought it being a Gaming/NPC worldview. When people treat life as a video game to beat, all of the people in it are just NPCs. Sometimes useful, sometimes even “beloved” but always just objects put there to serve the player in some way.

The truth here is so ever relevant, is so simple and profound. I think I might pop it into my next book. Sharing yet again:
I hate coming to the end of a reliable series that is good for background watching. My background shows in the last year have been Midsommer Murders and Brokenwood. But I have run through all of both.
Do we not have libraries filled thousands of Science Fiction stories that explain in great detail why this is a bad idea?
Every time these guys answer questions/concerns about LLMs it just makes these models seem more and more like a collective of dystopian nightmares from literature in a trench coat.
Haven’t been posting much in quite some time. Everything’s been….overwhelming? But I plan to get better about it.
Sadly and terrifyingly it seems we are moving in that direction.
That is why “wellness farms” are in quotes. Of course it is a euphemism for forced labor/concentration camps. Just like “dangerous to the community” will be used to imprison people with ideas they don’t like. Did you honestly think I supported or was falling for this shit?
If only that label was actually applied to the truly “sexually dangerous”
This is so wrong on so many levels. Commitment has been historically abused to disappear folks.

The part on the Atty General identifying “sexually dangerous” people is particularly troubling. With their views of sexuality that is vague enough for them to weaponize this against the LGBTQ community.
RFK Jr. already imagined “Wellness Farms.” What are the odds that this is an attempt at for profit slave labor camps under the guise of “treatment”?

Spot on. It’s happening right now…this is how it starts.

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.
I was in High School but it was just a 1 semester class so it ended up being only really a brief general overview of the topic.
Do you ever get a moment to sit and pause and realize you haven’t been really breathing for a really long time?

I took my youngest to the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum and sitting in their outdoor area, I felt like I was able to breathe for the first time in a long time.
#DanceMom victories: we got to the event comfortably ahead of call time, parking was stress free, we got our entire luggage haul (incl 5 costumes) into the hotel in one trip, and a room was available for early checkin.

What is even happening?
