there are *incredibly negative* health effects associated w/ noise
annoyance, dementia, cardiac issues, death
and yet we do NOT measure noise pollution in the US - don't do anything to mitigate it either
in fact it's the opposite: we focus density on the loudest roads

i don't know what it will take for planners to understand that noise pollution, air pollution, and unsafe streets are not the sorts of places we should be focusing dense and affordable housing

Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.

I maybe had some sympathy for people experimenting with image gen early on before the slop machine became the default aesthetic of the fascist movement. Now I cannot take seriously anyone who claims that their "prompt-crafting" or even "AI assistance" is the same as someone who honed their craft.

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far
