Thinking about Philadelphia Union, USMNT, hoops, padel and music.
MLS Semi-Final on Saturday night behind a paywall and up against Alabama-Auburn. The changes in @mls.bsky.social schedule and tv approach can’t come soon enough.

What's next for the Union after their MLS Cup playoff exit? A little bit of uncertainty, but a clearer outlook than this time last year

What's next for the Union after Shield season ends in early playoff exit? | OnPattison
The Union won the Supporters Shield but fell short of MLS Cup again. What's next after a successful yet disappointing 2025?

Union absolutely earned this Shield. Almost never dropped their level all year long no matter who they were playing, and clinched it with one of the two or three best wins of the season.

Other contenders couldn't match the week-to-week focus Philly had. Top team.

They've allowed 2 in 4 days

Since nothing will stop the trend of more and more competitions and games, more substitutes should be allowed in order to protect the players.
Everybody should absolutely view this as an invitation to drop your spiciest soccer takes.
lol I’m gonna need bluesky’s biggest soccer post ever to balance out all the politics engagement im burying myself under.

I chatted with U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker about his grand plan for player development.

(and with him + others about why implementing it is so dang difficult.)

Feature @theathleticfc.bsky.social:
U.S. Soccer has a new vision for youth development. Implementing it is ‘an astronomical ask’
The "U.S. Way" is meant to kick development into high gear, but the American soccer landscape presents a series of challenges

The Club World Cup is only slightly less decadent and depraved now than when it kicked off.

But there can be no doubt that Philadelphia did a terrific job as a host with its eight games, perhaps the best of any city in the tournament.

Rave reviews from visiting teams, media, and FIFA officials.

At this point you’d have to be insane to buy dynamically priced tickets in advance of a concert or sporting event. Prices will either stay the same or go down.
NEW: Standard admission tickets for Club World Cup 1/4 final been slashed for several games;

$11.15 for Fluminense v Al-Hilal
$22.30 for Chelsea v Palmeiras
$44.60 for PSG v Bayern

Huge drop from original pricing. FIFA prioritizing access at last?

Waking thought re @philadelphiaunion.com - @intermiamicf.bsky.social match. Defending at the end was shaky but when Miami goes all in on attack, you beat them by taking advantage of their crap defense. Union had 3 clear cut chances to score the 4th and missed all of them. That’s the game. #doop

Having done a dozen or more of these Miami games in person, I feel entirely comfortable saying that Philly treats Messi with less reverence than any other MLS crowd. Legendary sports fans, obviously, and some of the only who actively boo him at almost all times.
