Democratic primary voters in the 2020 primary: we shall restore the soul of our nation and return our country to normalcy.

Democratic voters in the 2028 primary: We will drive the machine of war with the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the orc.

I mean, among other things, why SHOULD the system be interested in rewarding white guys? Is being a white guy some kind of great achievement?
If you think the system doesn't seem interested in rewarding white guys at all that seems to be an issue of your media diet and not a reflection of reality

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

I got Whamageddoned a few mornings back. It felt pretty trivial at the time, and now it feels even more so.

One of my very favorite SF writers and the creator of many (over Eight) of my favorite SF worlds.

Smile and spread your wings, sir.
News is coming to me via friends on Facebook, and via Fancyclopedia, that John Varley, who wrote Millennium, Steel Beach, and the Gaea trilogy (Titan, Wizard, Demon) has died. He was an excellent writer in the Campbell/Heinlein tradition, and I dug him a lot in my teens and early 20s. RIP.

I *can* speak to my dead grandmother. She just can't speak back. Except, of course, in the sense that I already know pretty much exactly what Mama Lea would say.

Two-hour delay tomorrow, with eight 25-minute classes.

Oh, yeah. We're gonna get a LOT done.

They've already cancelled school for tomorrow, and considering we've got at least three inches already, with at least another hour of snow predicted, the temperature plunging, and no rise above freezing until tomorrow afternoon, that was probably a wise move.

Second December snow day so far, which is nice for my brain, but I don't want to be at school in July.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

We had our first snow of the season on Friday, so naturally I felt compelled to make @drewmagary.bsky.social 's chili last night, and it still kicks ass.

Where exactly is the part of the Constitution that clearly states SCOTUS decides what the meaning of the Constitution is?

I ask because I am already very clear on the part that clearly states that all persons born in the US are citizens of the US.

Other than permanent DST, I don't have any real disagreements here.
Here’s what I think the modern Dem platform should be:
-Prosecute this administration
-Expand and pack SCOTUS
-Outlaw private equity
-Limit corporate consolidation
-Ban fossil fuels
-Ban AI
-Heavily regulate gambling
-Free healthcare/free pre-K thru college education
-Permanent DST

For starters.

A while back, Kelly & I each wrote 26 movie titles on slips of paper and put them in a jar. We draw a random slip when we want to watch a movie together.

After ANNIHILATION last night, we've watched 30. Exactly 15 titles were selected by each of us, which is both perfect and a little unnerving.

I mean, IANAL, but I think there's a pretty decent argument that birthright citizenship is more explicitly constitutional than judicial review.

Hey, last year our schools shut down for a week when the water system broke down. They said it was snow, but I'm absolutely willing to believe raccoons were responsible.
The Ashland, Virginia liquor store racoon was in Pop Culture Happy Hour's 'What's Making us Happy' we've made it. Also the locality where that happened posted this yesterday. (It's a snow day, they aren't closed for raccoon reasons)
