Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Paradroid was one of the best.
But I havent played bc I was an Amiga user.
I did play all Epyx Sports games and Winter games was one of the absolute Top 2.
(and one of my most played Computergames prob.)

Yes, if its a discussion, Its different. But someone positng "I played X" is not asking for people saying "I disklie this game for reasons". I get the impuls to correct (I have it myself too), but I think it helps internet culture if ppl are more aware of that being unnecessary

Generally I think its bad form to jump into someones mentions to say that the game they played sucks.
