Not only does this story get a number of basic facts wrong, it doesn’t take time to actually explore why Portlanders elected these folks. Coming in with a pre-baked PDX story to fit a NYT narrative about NYC is harmful, especially at this moment.

I'm going to sound like the biggest hater & loser in the world and I know we must do our political performance but the "look at my war ravaged Portland" photos especially from politicians are getting a little 😬 when we have crisis levels of people without housing including unknown numbers of kids

Refuse to believe people who say they want the best for Portland if they spend time/energy mobilizing opposition against housing as a human right or universal preschool. Use power to push back against Trump’s threats and do more to make Portland safer for children, immigrants and unhoused people.

everyone should get a public defender at eviction court and i'm not kidding
A 68-year-old veteran with disabilities got an eviction notice last week for unpaid rent he didn't know he owed. With swift intervention from a tenant union and a city councilor, the eviction case was dismissed. Tenant rights advocates say the case underscores a larger, systemic problem.
Eviction of Disabled Veteran Halted After Intervention From Neighbors and a City Councilor
A veteran with disabilities who faced eviction will stay in his apartment, after intervention from a tenant union and a Portland city councilor. Last Friday, Dan McLean, 68, got an eviction notice at ...

Join us as we canvass renters in D1 to invite the community to the East Portland Renters’ Town Hall.

Portland transit riders deserve better service, not policing! We've heard that the mayor wants to put cops on our buses and we say HELL NO.

PDX DSA is more than a 2,000 member electoral ngo, members are in the streets handing out water and electrolytes to people who capitalism would throw to the wind. Our members are forming tenant unions across the city and pushing boycotts against the genocidal American supplied Israeli government.
The actual story that isn’t here is that the socialist city councilors are getting their agenda passed because they are smarter & more disciplined than the other people on council. They understand procedural rules better and have policy aims.

Dan Ryan just takes up space. Zimmerman has no politics.
On Saturday we joined our comrades in Salem at their first Renters’ Town Hall.

@portlanddsa.bsky.social Housing Working Group Co-Chair Lela S. and organizer Mike E. answered question and discussed how their chapter can work towards a Renters’ Bill of Rights in Salem.
