MaxFun is a 100% worker-owned cooperative. Our elected worker board decided we needed to move. They created a site search committee, who found a place. Then the full membership of the coop voted on whether to move there. For many reasons, the vote was a resounding "yes."
@jessethorn.bsky.social asking listeners to sponsor @maximumfun.org’s new office and supplies after choosing NOT to go remote is simultaneously the most perplexing and embarrassing final form of millennial-gone-Corpo

I hope that someone who is able to get a response out of Anthropic about anything can get them to respond directly to Claude being used by Rafael. Not only do they explicitly ban weapon development in their TOS, the company has lofty claims about its IHL principles www.anthropic.com/news/claudes...

This is really not how any of this is supposed to work. Remembering how many times I was told "the government should never be picking winners and losers"... from many people who are in today's federal government.
Not simply fascism. Monarchism.

A Bard College student was kidnapped by ICE and Bard’s administration is advocating for his release and has created a website to assist the rest of the community in joining them.

When this building went up it was called “a middle finger to the 99 percent” because it was one of the most expensive places to live in the world.

Whenever we could see it from a distance my mom would say we had the “fuck you view.”

So watching this unfold has been absolutely fucking hilarious.
Reading about this luxury apartment building that's falling apart after only ten years because the developer wanted a pure white building, a color only achieved by weakening the concrete. LOL what a fucking living metaphor.
432 Park Is Cracking Up
Developers wanted the supertall’s cement façade to be a pristine white. Turns out that’s not great for durability.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the last several months, and Graff nails the thought: “It turns out, in the end, that there’s only one check and balance that actually matters: Good character. Everything else in a constitutional system follows and relies on that simple foundation.”
The destruction of the East Wing is a reminder that America has violated the only check-and-balance that actually ends up mattering: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-only-c...

I for one think the Epstein Ballroom will be magnificent. I love the decor theme of “what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn.” And giving it a theme song everyone will associate with it is a stroke of brilliance! “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” is very catchy.

In the audience tonight is Charlotte Bennett, one of the 13 women that Andrew Cuomo is credibly alleged to have sexually harassed while they worked in his government.

She can't speak for herself because Cuomo's lawyers have hounded her.

So I confronted him.

As a reminder to everyone, a key part of the Bari Weiss origin story is her livetweeting editorial meetings.
In the institutions she critiques she treats leakers (including herself) as principled dissenters. In the institutions she controls, she expects loyal silence.

This woman is in a nursing program & the entire textbook for her anatomy class is wrong because it was written by a professor who used chatgpt to generate the images & possibly the text. She complained to the prof, then the university— they’ve done NOTHING about it.

Sliwa has been in New York politics for decades and like anyone who has been in New York politics that long he has a deep and abiding hatred of Andrew Cuomo on a personal level
Curtis Silwa was asked if he felt okay with losing and contributing to Zohran Mamdani’s victory and he responded by laying into Bill Ackman and Andrew Cuomo.

The NBC Asian America crew regularly covered so many of my films, comics, and books over the years. One of the very few big, mainstream venues to give a damn. This is a kick in the teeth.
In fact, if you go to the Axios page, you get "Exclusive: AI writing hasn't overwhelmed the web yet", not "mostly written by humans". I'd say hitting parity in a year or two, even if much of the content is being ignored by search engines, is a tsunami of low-quality content.
The actual Axios page headline isn't great. If we're at the point where 50% of the articles are AI generated, and the written internet took decades to build (and in some cases reflect posting centuries of content), that AI hit that point so quickly is pretty bad.

Exclusive: The web is still mostly written by humans, study finds
New data shows AI-written content is plateauing — and doesn't perform well in search.

I'd go so far as to say that any technology that would lead to lower profits due to increased demand for care, will be cast aside, even if it's accurate/appropriate. This won't be accurate, but the sad truth is that only tech that maximizes profit will be used. Human suffering is a footnote.
In our current hellscape - this will be used as a way of DENYING care, rather than increasing the number of people getting appropriate care. And it'll be treated as valid/accurate without question by those profiting from that denial.

Topics Mike Johnson thinks are serious:

- Super Bowl halftime entertainer
- getting a Nobel Prize for Trump
- terrifying naked bike riders

Topics he thinks are not serious:

- Epstein Files
- domestic violence
- being able to keep the govt open
- the neutering of Congress
Q: This has been reported for a while. Cory Mills was accused of beating a girlfriend in his DC apt. Are you concerned about these allegations?

JOHNSON: You have to ask Rep. Mills about that. He's been a faithful colleague. I don't know the details. Let's talk about things that are really serious

It's somehow both wildly underreported and just out in the open that the vice president is either a neo-Nazi or, at a bare minimum, a neo-Nazi fellow traveler.
Fascinating. Politico notes that when notified of the texts, many state-level Republicans fired or condemned these cretins. Now Vance emerges to excuse the racism, and calls the reaction to it "pearl clutching."

He seems determined to purge the party of its last enclaves of decency.
