Long time Lib Dem and retired travel agent. That's my Lady friend at the Bois des Moutiers near Dieppe. Only picture I had that was long and thin!

We were F****d by Brexit and now we're being RefUKed.

'An essential condition today for entry into the upper echelons of Conservative party politics is being willing to at least pretend that you think taking Britain out of the EU was a good idea. This is a never-ending lobotomy for the Tories.'

How Brexit drained the Tories’ talent pool
The party can’t keep expecting successful people to pretend that leaving the EU was a good idea

Yes, do support them by donation but unfortunately they ONLY receive money via direct debit. Bad decision by Full Fact.

Yes, due to our crazy voting system. The vast majority of people didn't vote Labour.
pauljchandler.bsky.social
34% voted Labour but yes, the people roundly rejected the Tories!

A stonker of a night for us. Three huge wins, Reform nowhere near us and the Tories down to ten percent in Mel Stride’s own seat.

We are the only party taking Farage on and the only party beating him.

I notice they say 'that isn't RefUK policy' it's Ukip or whatever. Does RefUK have any kind of policy making body? Or is it just whatever Nigel says?
pauljchandler.bsky.social
Well, Bell I respect your opinion. I don't think it is clear yet how the Libdems will fall nationally

If we accept your premise (that it's a one-way street and slippery slopiness is inevitable), then what progressive ideas will ever be launched? Voting reform? Assisted dying? And looking back, equal marriage? I remember Norman Tebbit saying it would lead to sisters getting married!

Interesting survey - all to play for!!!

Yours is a fair point. I did use the word 'apparently'. My sense of speaking to friends (and fellow party members) is that most people think it's worth a try. Of course, once implemented we must watch for that slippery slope!
pauljchandler.bsky.social
Reform are against ID cards as are Corbynites and LibDems and apparently a lot of Labour MPs. Apparently the only people in favour are the majority of ordinary voters!!

Nice mixed metaphor - cars v trains!

People against things always say ‘slow down - don’t rush into this’. I believe this is the third attempt over 25 years. We must have covered everything by now!

I’m not sure irony works on social media!

Yawn yawn - the slippery slope argument. If we listened to that would we have divorce, woman's rights, gay marriage, assisted dying - in fact any change at all???

How do you know what you're missing?
pauljchandler.bsky.social
Fact is LibDems are too sensible and MoR for click hungry media. Of course the truth is more likely to be boring than lies.
pauljchandler.bsky.social
Of course you are correct it is not illegal to seek asylum. But what if their claim is rejected? Are they not then an illegal economic migrant? We need such migrants. Let's open more channels for them to come legally.

Parts of the internet are wild that's what we want to tame, just as parts of the wild west were wild and other parts really quite civilised.
