The opposite of poverty is not wealth. The opposite of poverty is justice. - Bryan Stevenson

Loutro Beach on the island of Crete. A small boat with a man in it hovers on top of turquoise water. In the distance, brilliant white stores and homes line the cove. There are no roads to get here. Boat is everything.

Yup!
I've learned the answer that doctors & dentists are trying to get when asking for a description of my pain is not "I also have migraines! My scale is not a civilian's. I might say WATERMELON, or stare out the window."

(tooth pain is better, still working on abdominal pain)

My favourite scene in the entire oeuvre of Canadian author Gail Bowen is her protagonist listening to a fellow professor say the first nice day in May he sets up a hammock & reads Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu. On a good year, he gets past the first chapter.

I swear, even Kant's proofreader probably took breaks every ten pages.

Friends give me little balls of yarn left at the end of a big project.
I knit baby booties & little dolls or animals, give them away. They've been as far as Germany, traveling with artists & scientists. And in my book Science Critters!

A moth that looks like a spider! With aquatic caterpillars! ISN'T NATURE WONDERFUL!!
tjalamont.bsky.social
For #Arachtober, here is a spider that's not a spider. It's Petrophila jaliscalis, a jumping-spider-mimicking moth - see the face-on spider pattern, with orange legs and sparkly dark eyes? I love finding these - I think they breed in my small goldfish pond, because the caterpillars are aquatic. 🌿🐙
A macro photo of a moth, seen from the side, on brown bark. The moth has white wings with lots of dark speckles, and a pattern of four orange vertical stripes, plus a row of dark spots above, with reflective scales in the centers. The effect creates a pattern that looks like a jumping spider seen face-on; the orange stripes mimic legs, and the dark spots mimic a jumping spider's row of large eyes.

It's nice to have an appropriate book to promote at 99cents during Bat Appreciation Month.
I've been asked to do a live reading online of Bat Poop Sparkles, & record it. Apparently spinning in my office chair while saying "Pew! Pew! Pew!" adds appeal to the page on penguins.

Can't tell who buys my bio of Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Could be #Canadian #history buffs or maybe canoe fans.
Yes, Trudeau #paddled more miles in a #canoe than ANY other Canadian prime minister; probably more than ALL the rest put together even including his son Justin.
