This is interesting, but likely only the tip of the iceberg because normally inhibiting complex1 is NOT a good thing: it causes electron leak and massive oxidative damage. And it also does not normally feedback on glucose levels. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Metformin targets mitochondrial complex I to lower blood glucose levels
Acute oral metformin administration lowers blood glucose levels by targeting mitochondrial complex I.

The link between mitochondrial bioenergetics and brain aging reported in Science. A beautiful study by our neighbours, Huan Ma lab demonstrates that restoring excitation-transcription coupling in mitochondria can improve memory function. This has a potential to reverse age-related cognitive decline.

Out today @NatureAging!

Life stress can accelerate aging and shorten lifespan, but how remains unclear.

We identify that hippocampal/cortical neurons acquire features of p16-dependent #senescence and DNA damage in mice exposed to chronic social stress.

Isolation of psychedelic-responsive neurons underlying anxiolytic behavioral states
Psychedelics hold promise as alternate treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders. However, the neural mechanisms by which they drive adaptive behavioral effects remain unclear. We isolated the specifi...

Sleep deprivation leads to non-adaptive alterations in sleep microarchitecture and amyloid-β accumulation in a murine Alzheimer model
Cankar et al. report that sleep loss suppresses NREM norepinephrine oscillations in a murine model of Alzheimer’s disease along with a parallel buildup of amyloid-β. Thus, overexpression of amyloid-β ...

We often assume textbook depictions can capture all of the diversity seen in living things--spoiler--they don't. Here's a remarkable example: Mitochondria in neuronal axons lack DNA and don't generate ATP!!! 🧪 1/2
