Making this a thread cause I have a lot to say on it.
3d models are a crutch, not a foundation.
I think people finding out about them and utilizing them at first feel that it's a good way to just get to competence quickly, but ultimately if you slavishly adhere to the models, your art looks flat.

Sorry for asking a few days later after this response, but what do you think of tracing 3D models as a beginner? I'm a new artist, and I was considering using them to simply have a base to work with, just to be able to learn other things such as anatomy, faces, shading..

Sidebar but this is why genAI trace is also very easy to spot. Higher level concepts like muscle and fat anatomy, perspective and colour theory are all incredibly difficult and take years of study. So if you see someone magically applying these higher concepts perfectly, but can't draw a bow?
The models don't work like people do, nor does the perspective look good when it's simply flatly applied. You can (sorta) modify the shapes of models to exaggerate perspective and anatomy, and you can dial up the perspective bar, but it doesn't work as well as just learning these concepts properly.

Basically, they're trying to pull another Prohibition on us, but on a larger/stupider level. These age verification and internet "safety bills" won't protect kids. They'll only shred our free speech and privacy, pushing users into dangerous territories. #SaveSpeech
