I'm honestly a little overwhelmed with emotion by this. How many times have I walked and biked these same streets...I love NYC and I believe in a better future for all of us in this city and in communities around the world!
Thanks, Oonee, for running these digital billboards for “Life After Cars” on your bike parking stations. We’re excited to see our names in lights near Times Square but the one by the Holland Tunnel – which brings the message right to drivers – is especially cool!

Longtime Volts listener, first-time guest. Thanks, David, for having us on to talk about Life After Cars.
Today on Volts: You know what sucks? Cars. They screw up cities, degrade our health, make us mean & selfish, induce terrible public policy, on & on. I talk with Doug Gordon & Sarah Goodyear, hosts of the unapologetic @thewaroncars.bsky.social podcast, about their new book & life after cars.
Yes, you weenies: a war on cars
Sarah Goodyear and Doug Gordon join me to discuss their new book and why a future with fewer cars is a happier one.

No Kings in Louisville, Kentucky: I reported extensively on the 2020 Breonna Taylor protests and I don't think I've every seen as many people protesting in downtown Louisville as I did today.

No Kings Denver speaker Joe Salazar (fmr Dem state rep) tells me they estimate 25-30k gathered in Denver today, similar to the No Kings protest earlier this year. This view is from photographer Cheney Orr for the New York Times. #copolitics

NEW from me: Right before the Trump administration's gutted the staff at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, the office had already set up for federal money to be dispersed for special education. Now it has nobody to oversee the money. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

I think more people should be aware of how much cool stuff Link does in real life. He’s not just a poster.
“As a neurodiversity advocate and as an autistic person, I’m really grateful for so much of the work that’s been done that allows me to be myself and to be successful being myself.” Link, who has been *banned*!?!? from this platform?

We live in a country & society that is built on racism. The neurodivergent community isn't free of that racism—per Autistic advocate AJ Link.

Vaccines depend on getting everyone who can take one to do so. In this case, the baby was still too young for the shot. But if the vaccination rate stays high, the baby stays safer.

"The infant was less than two months old and was not old enough to receive the pertussis vaccine, the agency said."
Mississippi health officer on death of baby (whooping cough)

“We do believe that declining vaccination rates are impacting this. . . . [O]ur concern is that adult Mississippians are not maintaining the pertussis immunity, which puts our babies at risk.”

Don't forget that it was because Darnella Frazier took out her phone and hit "record" that the racial justice moment of 2020 that emerged out of George Floyd's death took off the way it did.

This is what the press release looked like from Minneapolis police after Derek Chauvin murdered Floyd:

When my copy of The Onion arrived yesterday, I laughed so hard at this article. Everyone should buy a subscription.
Yesterday in London, President Obama described the autism spectrum and why there has been a big jump in the number of people who know they're autistic.

Worth seeing.
