Tonight was weird night. I only left the house to buy burger ingredients, but wound up working a few hours because i was close to the office anyway, then on my way back i got invited to have a few beers with friends i haven't seen in 10+ years, twice (separate groups of people).

After rewiewing like 200 000 portfolios ansd hiring like three people over the last ten years, i feel like i can say with some authority that knowing the basics matter, but that should be like max 10% of your pitch. What you add to the mix is the rel important part

A single bike Hang-On cabinet was in retrospect a pretty sweet deal for a video store in a tiny North Norwegian town. Also, the local youth club had a Pac-Man table that had been around since (probably) the early 80s.
we never had proper "arcades" until the mid 90s in norway, but the video rental stores were surprisingly on the ball about aquiring interesting arcade cabinets from the mid 80s on.

I had the weirdest dream last night, my team and i had a new years party where the artist sade (who i've always been indifferent to) performed a couple of songs, then everyone gathered to watch a playthrough of a nonexistant 1998 RE 1 ripoff.

I didn't plan on going clubbing tonight but now i need to find the best spot to hide a backpack full of expiring hamburger meat in a wat that is low temperature yet hidden and i think behind the couches with the big single layer windows behind them is a solid choice

This is the funniest and mosr accurate thing i've read today
Computer, please summarize everything PG Wodehouse ever wrote in ten seconds
rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Still haven't played 'the last of part 2' and by now i kinda don't want to, not because it has a muscular woman as a co-lead, i love that stuff, but the more i heard about it, the more it sounded like an allegory of the israel/palestine conflict as told from the least interesting possible wiewpoint

"small business" is such a funny term bc in it you have like a bunch of little gremlin artists fighting over a dollar and then also a guy who owns every tire store in a tri-city area and they are both like "im a small business"

kinda amazed that tommy lee jones was able to put in such an amazingly goofy voice performance for "small soldiers" considering his unwillingness to stand for jim carrey's "buffoonery" while filming batman forever. maybe it was just a question of professionalism vs offfscreen hijinx, i don't know

Remember, the big argument for AI in the arts is that these “artists” have ideas, hundreds of ideas, thousands, all that was stopping them was the hoards of gatekeeping musicians, writers, illustrators… and not that they were lazy and didn’t want to put in the work.

one of my gameplay principles is that gameplay limitations are never a problem as long as the limits are clearly expressed. (example: look at the original super mario bros, it didn't need to explain that you counld't backtrack, the scrolling locking based on rightwards progression made it obvious)

we've had some new people join the rain team in the last couple of years, from non-videogame backgrounds, and the main lessons are always "in videogame animation, anticipation has to be implied by every frame of the adjacent animations in the flowchart because you want instant response"...

when mike judge's idiocracy came out i was like "this is so on point". then a few years later, i was like "it's oversimplifying things and kinda making a mockery of people who don't deserve it". now i'm back to "this is so on point, with some concessions" because actual history proved me wrong.

The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

most ai tech could be really helpful doing menial tasks like fixing rough spots in images upscaled from substandard sources, removing scan texture noise, remapping UVs in ways that won't kill the human spirit, but they insist so hard on it being a "create bullshit from prompts" thing that i hate it

when i was a kid the local video rental store still had a space invaders cabinet alongside the street fighter 2 cabinet, because those things were a pain to ship to small islands on the coast of norway, and an even bigger pain to ship back

i wonder how doing a "radar blip" style gameplay logic/image update about on par with "game &watch" style segmented displays would look like in a modern setting. no limitations, exept game logic is locked to a certain pulse.

this is using the original gba resolution, which is a 3:2 240/160, but doing low res work on the current spectrum of available hardware may require changing base resolution to something more conveniently factor scalable for 16:9 since that's the standard now

Rewatched the movie Innerspace last night and it made me realize how funny it would be to get an endoscope (with the full understanding that the footage would be used for commercial purposes) and use that as the background footage for an on-rails shooter ala Silpheed on the Mega CD

modern mass market game engines are really a treasure trove of stuff people had to do from scratch years ago, if i had my way i'd do a lot more stuff where you keep the game design but drastically alter the presentation to keep the players on the edge where there's a contextual reason to do so

"PS5 version vs still quite impressive switch port"

it's weird, i pretty much stopped using twitter due to the management change, but whenever i go there i get nowhere near the levels of "curated" garbage recommendations that most people are getting.
