Brilliant story.......

No idea if true but frankly it's so brilliant it hardly matters
Off the latest Bluesky unnecessary self-immolation I was reminded of the summer in the early 90s where I temped for HP out amongst the hares in Leixlip. One of the legendary tales that went around was of the first Christmas party the US executives threw for staff.

Love to see this.

Refreshing change from the normal attitude to immigration
My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Given how the Burkes are milking a short video from outside the four courts, the decision by the Garda not to enter the Burkes' home to arrest him was probably correct.

Claims that Enoch Burke has been "effectively* given a life sentence" are now in heavy circulation online. The framing was first put forward by the Burke family, and has now been amplified by many prominent bad actors on X/Twitter in the UK and US

*"Effectively" is a load-bearing stipulation.

Still waiting for Niall or indeed @garda.ie to confirm that citizens' private personal data, submitted during garda vetting is safe and no that data breaches are occurring. The leak during the Presidential election would suggest otherwise.

Completely unrelated: Niall is a former Garda.
Would appreciate it if other media outlets credited @nialljournal.bsky.social and @thejournal.ie when reporting this.

At least the Irish Times did...

Hey folks, my husband possibly left or had his Steamdeck robbed on the L89 #Dublin Bus. The bus left Broombridge around 15.50 (the SD is at least password locked). If anyone knows anything let us know.

As of now, there is no condemnation of this attack from anyone - spokesperson, Minister, PR - in government. (This comes after the attack on a Brazilian man, where he was left with bleeding on the brain.) The gov are playing with fire and they know it. Shameful.
Asylum seekers have told of how they were followed by men on motorcycles before being subjected to an alleged attack in rural Co Dublin yesterday.

The incident – which saw the young men beaten and their car windows smashed – has been condemned.

1 year of this government and they have done fuck all to help those who need it most.

Now is the time to look at joining a political party, and doing the grass roots and party policy work for when this government collapses.

Point being, 1 new member can mean the difference between a branch presenting as left instead of centre-left. You can be a fresh set of eyes that recognises what the branch or even the party itself is doing right/wrong. You'd be amazed at the impact you can have if you're patient.

At my first ever branch meeting many, many, years ago, I was the deciding vote on two separate issues. I barely knew the names of everyone in the room but I helped shape what that branches stances on several issues. 2 of the people in that room went on to be councilors and still are. #Spéirgorm

There's a silver-lining to the assholes in the room thing. They're usually so insufferable they drive away good people. You end up in a branch with about 4 active members led by one domineering bollocks. 1 new and active member among 4 can wield a disproportionate amount of influence.

I'm gonna be blunt on this and say that your local branch almost certainly does have at least one asshole. Possibly more. They'll be the kind of asshole who drives away good people. Being a foil to that prick (If you've got the spoons) is an incredibly valuable act of political solidarity #Spéirgorm

It pisses me off no end that the housing crisis I'm experiencing makes it damn near impossible for me to become a politician who can speak to that experience. It's becoming impossible to establish yourself in a community for long enough to earn that community's vote. #spéirgorm
