As a Scot, this seems mostly normal to me. Not everyone is a saint, but most/many Scots would seek out & return a wallet.

Off at a tangent, but having had an unexpected beating from corrupt cops, with the “bar Sergeant” walk away when he saw the beating start - they didn’t expect a wee scrote like me to be unbreakable. When they smashed my head, I said “ooh, that was really good - can you do it again?” Fuckin idiots

I grew up in deepest darkest Lanarkshire where 90%+ lived in Council Housing back in the 70s. Mates of mine went to top universities to study maths, physics etc.

We *never* thought “where you came from” was a handicap to get to Uni back when it was very rare.

Just hard work.
