In 1895, in the remote West Kootenays of British Columbia, a narrow gauge railway was built to reach the richest silver mines in the world. By 1910 rampant development destroyed almost everything, a story still very relevant today. Click pics, read ALTs.

Excellent reference on the legality of US lethal strikes on small boats in Venezuelan waters. Trump and Hegseth have have gone completely rogue.

Also a good reminder that promoting unqualified and inexperienced political hacks to important and critical positions of authority is not going to work out well.
Both incidents remind us: when leaders abandon restraint, atrocities follow. From Vietnam to the Caribbean, the lesson is clear — unchecked orders to “kill everybody” lead to moral collapse. The past is prologue.

Eventually, the bill comes due.

Always.

A very good read on why any recognition of Crimea, or other portions of Ukraine, as a russian territory is a very terrible idea.

It would mark abandoning the very idea of international law, a concept very painfully created by WW2 that has served the world very well for 80 years.
Why Trump is ready to recognize the occupation of Crimea and part of Ukraine – and what it threatens the world
US President Donald Trump is promoting a “peace” agreement on Ukraine, which involves the actual recognition by Russia of control over Crimea and part of th

Putin abandoned the norms of International Law, bought at huge cost in WW2, a long time ago. Putin underlined this when he invaded Ukraine in 2014 and again in 2022.

Putin, and now sycophant Trump, are happy to make use of those norms in theatrical actions and negotiations to aid their own ends.
Duckworth: "It is a war crime. It's illegal. No matter how you put it, it's all illegal. I've been shot down behind enemy lines. Under the laws of war, you are supposed to help render aid to that individual ... you're not allowed to go back in and kill them."

Timothy Snyder draws on the history of Nazi Germany in autumn 1938 to warn us about Trump's next moves towards gangster authoritarianism in remaking America.

He explores the possible land war in Venezuela, and "self-terrorism", as new justifications to tear down democratic rights and freedoms.

Trump and his minions have shown a strong bias in favour of russia, and Ukraine and her partners are right to seek transparency.

"Our task now is to obtain complete information about what has been said in Russia and what other reasons Putin has found to prolong the war and to pressure Ukraine."

If you have done anything bad, but support the current US administration. you too can receive a free pardon for anything you have done. Drug smuggling especially.

Rock on America. Free World completely not following you.

The world waits for a new America on the other side, hopefully.

“Here russia killed my family. I will take revenge!”

Putin's only purpose in this invasion is to destroy the Ukrainian nation and absorb it into his russia.

Putin is the antithesis of everything the Free World stands for. Everything the world did to create new international law after WW2.

At this point, it should be obvious that the US administration has no intention of stopping russia. Just think about it: Trump sent a real estate developer and his son-in-law to negotiate with Putin.

At this point, it’s not diplomacy. It’s a business meeting about the sale of Ukrainian land.

NATO is reportedly preparing a “Plan B” if U.S.-led peace efforts on Ukraine fail, Svoboda reports. Eight alliance diplomats say Europe doubts any deal is possible. If talks collapse, the fallback is clear: more weapons for Ukraine, stronger economic support, and tougher sanctions against Russia.
